1st fill Wednesday and struggling--Normal?

Recommended Posts

Hello--

I'm having a heck of a time maintaining my weight before my 1st fill this coming Wednesday. I am fully healed and have my appetite back--and with a vengeance!! I exercise every day and have lost 20lbs before I even had the surgery. But, wow, right now it seems like I was never banded! Any perspective would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

My doctor told me that the time before the first fill, is a healing time. Just a time for your body to get use to the band being in you. Then as you get fills you will start to find your "green zone." I am scheduled to go for fills every two weeks for the first three months. That way he can work on finding that right tightness that aids in losing.

So right now just keep fighting the head battle of hunger. I know it was hard for me. Realize the time will come when the weight will just melt off, but remember to keep following the guidelines. I just remind myself how long it took me to lose 17 or 18 pounds before the band. I believe it took me three months or so on Weight Watchers! So hey, I am ahead of the game!

Good luck!

Well I have some good news for yall! I was going though the exact same thing before my first fill. I could basically eat what ever I wanted and was wondering what was the point of the surgery! But I went in last week to get my first fill. He put 4.8 cc in a 10cc band. Now I know that it differs for everyone but right now I can hardly eat anything. After one or two bites I feel full. I am finally starting to realize how much that the surgery is going to help. I think we all have to go though that first four weeks when our appetite comes back and we start wanting to eat everything but the kitchen sink! But you're doing great! Hang in there and after you get your first fill you will see how different it will be! Good luck!

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I cannot wait now until my 1st fill on Wednesday.

For LunaAnny, I don't know if you have ever been on a cruise before, but there is food EVERYWHERE. Best of luck to both of us, that that 1st fill will make us feel full and not hungry, so we can concentrate on other things in our lives other than eating. Bring a good book (or two) on your cruise. Do alot of walking--there will probably be a level where people walk around a track. Let me know how you do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
