New and waiting

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm Lojo from Dublin, Ga. I am 57 years old and a proud grandmother of six children (3 boys and 3 girls). I've had my consult with Dr. V.John Bagnato (Albany, Georgia) and waiting to hear that I'm officially approved. My husband's BCBS will pay for the surgery, but they must have a denial letter from United Health Care. I hope this want take long. I'm ready to start my life as a healthier, thinner mother and grandmother. He said once approved the surgery could be scheduled within two weeks. My obesity is co-morbid with multiple health problems (diabetes Type II;RA;hypertension;depression, GERD,sleep apnea, high cholesterol, underactive thyroid). I hope to be a November Bandster. I have been reading many of the comments posted in the forum. They have been very helpful and encouraging.

Hey Lojo! Welcome! Yeah, it certainly does sound like you'd do very well with the band to improve your health. Many of those conditions can be greatly improved with some weight loss! The band is not a magic cure but it sure does help!!

Best of luck to you with your insurance matters!

Terri,

Thanks for the words of encouragement!! I can't wait to check out your jewelry store on line! I am a jewelry nut. Is the LapBand removed once you reach your goal weight or is it left in forever?

Lojo,

It is meant to be left in for your lifetime. You can have an 'unfill' when you reach your goal if you like.

Oh, I hope you like my store! Thanks for visiting!

T.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
