my first question is that why cant we eat more than three times in a day if we are not exceding our calories ... is it to break the habit of snacking or is it because too much work in digesting the food can harm the pouch

my second question is ... how soon can we lie down after eating and cann we eat or dring in semi reclining position ... i get very tired from works in afternoons and feel like sleeping immediately after lunch

I don't think it's that you can't eat more than 3 times a day. It's that you should not be hungry in between meals. I don't snack between meals at all like i used to. That's not to say i don't occasionally grab an apple or a sf popsicle. As for you being tired, are you sure you are getting enough Protein? I have more energy which i think may be because i have more protein now. That is one thing my doctor stressed, to be sure and get at least 50 to 60 grams of protein each day.

Good luck!

I was told no eating in between meals because we have to get 8 cups of Water a day, but can't drink 30 min before and 30 min after eating. Therefore that takes an hour away that you cannot get your water. So if you eat 3 meals a day, plus a morning and afternoon snack, that is 5 hours of the day you can't drink water... it makes it much harder to get your water in.

I was told 3 meals a day only as well; however, I do so much exercise now that if I don't eat a little more during the day I can't function. I eat stuff like applesauce or yogurt so it pretty much goes right through. I get in all of my Protein and my Water (I have a kidney disorder so I am under doctor's orders to get in at least 3 Liters per day), so I don't worry about the extra snacking. I also don't eat junk food for those Snacks.

I don't think I've ever heard a warning of lying down too soon after a meal because of your band; however, it's probably not a good idea to lay down immediately after a meal anyway as you need time to digest. It could technically cause you to have reflux. I know that sometimes if I bend over immediately even after drinking Water it sometimes comes flying back out. Ask your doc if you are concerned about it.

Getting in more fluids is the only reason I can think of that would justify them saying 3 meals a day. I normally only eat 3 times a day, but I eat a cup of food each time. I also drink a venti caramel mocha almost every day, made with skim milk and only 2 pumps of mocha instead of 5 and sf caramel (total 220 calories 17g Protein that are well worth it). So, with the drink I get in more fluids and the calories and protein as well. When I don't drink one, I do eat an extra meal.

My doctor told me do not eat and lie down, because de food residing in the pouch too long will stretch the pouch, Eat and wait 3 hours before lying down, if you have to eat late, choose a liquid meal...and do no drink 30 minutes before or after your meal, it will flush the food quickly thru the band, into your stomach. Also, foods in the pouch will adsorb the liquid, swell, and cause an obstruction

My doc said 3 meals a day because with proper restriction and following the bandster rules (50% Protein per meal), you should not be hungry in between meals. He also said do not lay down for 3 hours after eating. He said it will stretch the pouch, but also lead to reflux from the food still in the pouch. Reflux can equal band erosion later.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
