Hey sorry,

I posted a question on the intro site; new to this, lol. Okay I had lapband last November and am loving it. I have lost about 41 lbs now should have lost more but had a little problem finding a fill location that was in network with my insurance, along with looking for a house so I got behind four months no big deal. So look for your fill place before surgery so you do not have this problem.

Be blessed,

Dana

Hi Dana! Welcome to the board!

I've been contemplating for a long time whether or not to get the band....in July, I finally decided to go ahead with it...I finished all my pre-op testing and I just got my surgery date...I get banded on November 20th! YEAH!!! I've expressed several times on this forum how excited and fearful I am about this surgery. I try to stay positive by reading through all the posts, just like yours, that say how happy people are they decided to get the band. It helps keep me positive, so thank you for sharing your story! Although I am reading so much, I still feel like there is so much more to learn and this is where I sometimes get scared because I want to be as informed as possible about what to expect!

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and thank you for helping me keep positive! Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your nice words and keep positive. It was the first time I had ever been put to sleep and through prayer I did not need any meds before the surgery other than some nausea meds due to not having anything in my tummy which makes me sick feeling. So pray and if you feel this is what you should do; do it and trust that God will get you through it. I tell everyone to do it to change their lives and get healthier. I am off blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds, praise God for lap band. Right after surgery maybe the first couple of months I was off of some of my other meds. I started out taking 9 and now I am down to four which I will continue with these because its asthma and allergy meds. But good bye to everything else.

God bless you and keep us updated,

Dana

Thanks, Dana....I know in my heart that this is what I need to do! I'm drained...I'm disgusted...I'm frustrated...I'm dissapointed...I have sleep apnea....my blood pressure is the highest its ever been...I can't play too long with my kids because I just don't have the energy...I'm out of control and I need HELP! For so long I denied this, "I can do this on my own, I don't need the band...that's taking the easy way out", and I would talk myself out of it...but the posters on this site truly helped me to realize that the band most certainly isn't the EASY way out! Its going to be hard work, life changing...but the band is the tool that I need to finally help me be rid of this extra person I've been carrying around for YEARS.

I wish you continued success on your weight loss journey, your doing a great job! And thank you for your encouragement, it means so much:biggrin:

I did mine in May of 2007. I went in completely excited and looking forward to my different life. I came out thankful that I had done it...from day one...NO reservations. I am now 5 pounds below MY goal...25 pounds below my doctor's goal, and I AM LOVING LIFE!!!! I'll tell you...I worried about perceiving myself as a fat person in a skinny body. I am amazed to say that was NOT SO!!!! (except for the last time I went to the mall to try clothes and the salesgirl said, "Oh, no dear...that 12 will be WAY to large on you...I think you'll take an 8!" and I looked at her and LAUGHED.....but she was right!) I look good and I KNOW it and I don't shudder at the thought of entering into a room full of people anymore. AND....I eat any darned thing I want...all the time. Just in way way way smaller portions and obviously attempting to eat healthy (I mean, 5 oreos a day as five meals just doesn't cut it, folks!). There are things I have given up due to the logistics of eating them (hamburgers for instance...but I don't miss them!)...and I tend to order out at restaurants from the appetizer section of the menu (which is becoming more and more automatic for me!). I consider myself a HUGE success story.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
