I have a surgery date of December 10th and I am very excited! I started the medifast diet early because my insurance requires a bmi of less than 50 and I am slightly above that. So inorder to qualify I started medifast on September 16th. I have been on the diet for two weeks now and have lost 15 pounds! I am happy about the weight loss but I am afraid I will not be able to stick to the medifast for three whole months. Right now I am on four shakes a day with one meal. Soon I will be on five shakes a day with no meal! I pray I have the willpower to stay on the medifast. If I don't, I wont lose enough weight to have my insurance pay for the surgery. I need words of advise on how to make it through. Did anyone else get frustrated on the medifast diet?

I had to do shakes with meals but just to shrink my liver and only for two weeks. I did find alternating flavors and a co-worker said adding ice to make it more like a frozen shake helps along with adding fruit; if allowed. You can do and it will be worth it. Keep going and God does answer prayers and you are in mine. I pray you have the will power to get through this and the time goes by fast for you. I believe in you and will continue to pray for you. YOU CAN DO IT!

Good luck!! You are in my thoughts and prayers too! Just imagine...the shake is a lifeline. If you can do this, you can do anything. People are so resilient that you will get through this and come out on the other side smelling of roses! Sweet, skinny roses!

I did medifast a few years ago (not before surgery, but just to lose weight) -- so I am right there with you with how hard it is. First: It will get easier. Trust me. You just need to break that sugar/carb addiction. Second: My doctor told me this -- think of it like you are on medicine. Three months worth of medicine. Having that in my mind that it was a finite amount of time and it was like a medical procedure helped. Third: Think of it as food rehab. It's hard. Crazy hard. But there was something so nice, so quiet about not having to think and make deals with myself and give myself permission to eat or sham myself after I ate. It was shakes shakes shakes and a lean/green. It was very nice after a while. Goo luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
