Mike, Joanne--Great to hear things are going well! My thought are with those of you in pain and I hope that it gets better very soon. I'm glad to hear that everyone banded this week is doing well except for the pain and nausea reported. Has anyone heard from FL Pete? I hope he is doing well and have him in my prayers along with all of you for a successful recovery.

Hi everyone my surgery was the 4th and I came home the same day. The gas pains in my back was awful the pain from the incisions didn't kick in till the next day.I guess the meds my surgeon injected in them was wearing off. I'm on Protein Shakes and one clear snack a day. It really seemed like a lot a first but after the second day I could feel hunger, I thought that was a little soon . I thought I wouldn't feel hungry till at least the 3rd week. My port site is sore and a little swollen. I still have 5 days before I return to work so hopefully I'll be good to go by then.

Hi there... I was banded on the 2nd! Wow home the same day... i was supposed to be an overnight but had low potassium (which leads to other ills) I became a 2 day stay- so, in answer to your concerns... you'll feel so much better every day. My port is still bothersome and the incisions a bit also but, yesterday I went for a walk (slow but 10 min!) and today I was dancing to my favorite music! I think I'm pretty bored-can't drive till Tuesday and I really don't feel like going to any Malls right now! You'll be better than the old you, sooner than you know it! Keep the good work!

:thumbup:Hi all,

I have my banding date of 12/15. The only thing I have left to do is get my dr. clearance and go for the final weigh in. I had to loose 10-15 lbs and I know I have already lost atleast 10 but will continue my medifast liquid diet until my surgery. They don't make this an easy road at all but I am looking forward to a new life.

HI All, Congrats to all who have been banded this week. Good Luck to those who are scheduled. Found 2 things helped with the gas- Gas-X and walking. The more I move the better it gets. My port site hurts too but i take the liquid Tylenol, for now - of course it didn't help that i rolled over on my stomach one night ( it woke me up)(DUH) but so far , it is tolerable. Hang in there everyone!! Actually have a hard time getting all the Fluid, Protein and 3 meals in but last night I actually felt hungry!!

To all of you with port pain:

Me too! Yesterday was tough - very hard to stand or walk. I did walk a little, but it hurt a lot. Today has been a little better. Please consider - think about how much it hurts when you have an injured muscle, esp in the back or abdomen, in muscles that support your core. That is what you have now - the port is attached to abdominal muscle, thus the muscle is "injured" and hurts like heck when you try to use it - as in standing or walking - or stretch it as in lying flat. It does help to support the port incision with a small pillow or just your hand as you walk. If you have had coughing or vomiting during this early recovery, it will hurt more. Just try to support the area and walk as much as you are able. My doc said not to worry about taking the pain meds - that is what they are for. If they can help you rest and get good sleep, you will heal faster. Rest is the key.

Good luck to week 2 bandsters! We are here for you...

Kerry best of luck to you and all the week 2 bandsters:thumbup::biggrin::thumbup:!!!

Joann, thanks for the tips about the port site sorness. Mine is getting better, but still not 100%. I agree, it helps when you support it with something.....

FUTURE BANDSTERS---This is a good tip for everyone going into surgery. When your up and about, support the area where they put the port in. I also recommend, like the others, bring slipper sock-some hospitals provide them, a pillow for the trip home and I used mine to prop me up in the bed and chapstick. I put some on before and after surgery. Your lips are very dry after surgery. I also put some on before the "swallow" test and as soon as I swallowed the dye, I licked my lips to get the "dye taste" out of my mouth:lol:. Sounds funny, but kept me from gagging:tounge_smile:.

hehe Vickie.

I have wiifit. Got it for my bday in sept. Like the hula hooping thing but honestly it got boring quick. Everything is in 2 min exercises then you have to grab the remote and switch to the next. When jogging you can't catch up to the lead guy and smack him in the head or anything. The yoga stuff is kind of goofy. And not sure how the balence exercises help get your heart rate up enough to be considered exercise.

I prefer putting the ipod on and walking.

I will have to concur with Beth. The hula hoop is fun for a while. I bored pretty quickly after that. My seven year old son plays with it occationally but he mostly enjoys running in place because he passes people and in one place puppies which he calls "the puppy stampped". Mostly the wii fit sits on the shelf.

I would like to know what others who have dance revolution think of it. That does look like fun from what I have seen.

I'm glad to get this feedback on the Wii Fit. I had it on my Christmas list, but was waffling a little about it. It's a lot of money and I am beginning to think I will take advantage of my gym membership instead. Its already paid for and close by. I think we'll wait on that purchase.

December Week 2 2 B Banded...we are up! Thank you to all the week 1 'Bandsters' for coming in with reports and great tips/hidden hints, we could not learn from a book! You go Kerry, our forerunner of the week, and all other 12/08/08 surgeries! Keeping us all in prayer for continuing speedy & whole recoveries as well as wisdom to start the Bandster lifestyles!

By the way, on the Wii Fit, it is a great interactive tool to use in starting out any kind of program, and also, helps you to continue to work the core...while learning balancing. It tracks your BMI & weight, while helping to set goals. The step and boxing are actually fun to challenge yourself in, and that does get the heart rate up! I lost inches & weight on it w/o having started any dieting, and it is so fun to try different activities! Just my 2 cents worth, I am looking forward to the J. Micheals Wii Fit version next! Have a blessed day!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
