Yipee!

I just got a surgery date of December 2. I'm excited and scared and hope I am up to the challenge. Early diabetes is one reason for the banding; but am also looking forward to non-aching back and legs, no C-PAP machine and more energy. It's great to be able to talk with other December bandsters.

Is anyone drinking Slimfasts to practice for the all liquids phase? Any other ideas to prepare for the huge changes?

Thanks, Kathy (garden-nut)

Garden- Nut,

Good Luck, My surgeon had me on a diet of 2 slimfast or liquid Protein Shakes for 2 meals and a "regular" meal for the 3rd in prep for the surgery. All our surgeons did something different. Do start to count Proteins. Look at those things you will need to change in your home , at least until you heal. Lay in a supply of Protein and items you may need. Do read our earlier posts - it may help.

I'll be starting Optifast liquid diet in 2 weeks. Thanksgiving (I'm cooking) will be a trip. Also I'd really like to lose some weight before the Optifast. It's hard not to have self-doubts after so many years of piling on the weight, but this is it! (borrowing a few words from the King of Pop)

Can't wait to pitch these worn out, elephantine clothes and actually buy something with a zipper. But heh, I've got every size in my closet from 12 to xxl.

Any one have ideas for getting thru Thanksgiving?

Best of luck to all December Bandsters

Garden-nut, Congrats! If you are allowed any solid foods, use your scale, and measuring cups/ spoons. If you are not allowed any solids, at least sprinkle a little cinnamon in your Optifast. I found it helpful to prepare food in advance and otherwise leave the kitchen. My DH and DD took the items out of the oven. I set timers to go in and check but otherwise stayed out of the kitchen. Thanksgiving was my last solid meal and i prepared it also.

Hey guys Im new on here.. My names Hali im from tx. One of the nurses from the hospital that I go to suggested this site. I got banded in Dec of 07 and I have lost about 50 lbs. I have had a lot of problems with throwing up so the doc thought my band was too full and my stomach was probably swollen so he kept taking stuff out of it til he couldnt any more. Now we have found out that my band has slipped probably from all of the throwing up. I have to have surgery again and they want to know if I want another band. They said that this hardly ever happens.. only to about 1 out of 200 patients but Im scared that it will happen again. They also told me that they have better bands now. If I do not get another band then there is a big possibility that I will gain my weight back pretty fast.. What do you guys think? Im not sure what to do..

Either way my surgery has to happen soon because its difficult to eat

Thanks, sue in ne, for the great Thanksgiving ideas. I think I may also buy some prepared things from the grocery store. My goal is to stay out of the kitchen as much as possible. Oh well, it's just the first challenge of many to come.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
