Do you have a December Date?

Recommended Posts

Mr. Mike, let us know what your doctor's office has to say about the way you are feeling and the drop in sugar. I don't know what kind of pre-op you are on, but could more Protein be added? I do worry about this with the pre and post op diets - if I don't have plenty of protein I have a major drop in blood sugar, too. I have ordered some samples of protein supplement drinks from Bariatric Advantage just in case. There are tasteless powders that can be added to other foods also. Please keep us posted on your doctor's advice to you.

Well, I am in full swing with the full liquids, and I must say, its not as bad as I imagined. I have lost 3 pounds and that makes me really excited. I also had an EGD today and that was fast, and painless for those of you who are dreading it! Now I am a little jealous of MR MIKE cause I'm 3 days on the diet and I havent lost as much as him!!LOL Okay December bandsters, it's on now.....

As my DH says, "11 days and a wake-up!" It's 12 and a wake-up for me. I'm getting alternately nervous and excited, too. It's hard to believe this is finally happening.:cool2:

Okay, I'm on day 6 of the 2 week pre-op diet. 2 weeks of four Protein Shakes a day(must have 10g Protein for every 100cal) and a structured meal (i have a healthy choice meal) and no more than 1100-1200 cal a day total. I've lost 10 pounds in six days!!! I'm sure some of that is Water weight and I did gain weight right before I started the diet due to "last meals", but I'm proud of myself because I've been sticking with it. The first two days were horrendous. I really wanted to chew off my arm. After that, it's been smooth sailing. I really haven't even thought about food. I have to remind myself to drink the protein shakes. I did the upper GI and ekg and have to meet back with my Dr. on Tuesday to go over the results and get instructions for the surgery, but 8 days to go and I'll be banded!!!!

Hello December Bandsters,

I'm new to the site, but my surgery is scheduled for December 4. I met with the surgeon on Friday and he didn't give me any pre-op diet to follow, but the more I'm reading, it looks like everyone else has some type of pre-op diet. Would anyone mind sharing theirs with me? I'm going to make a call the surgeon on Monday, but just to get a jump start, that would be great.

So, a little about me, I'm ready for this. I had surgery 2 1/2 years ago, laproscopic as well, where I donated my dad a kidney, so I do understand how my body is going to handle things, at least at first. I'm super excited, and have been sharing the news with everyone close to me. I know that some people have decided to keep the surgery private, but I would rather not have the questions on the back-end. Like I said, i'm super excited, and can't wait to be a member of the December bandsters!

I don't have a preop diet, except for Clear Liquids and a bowel cleanse the day before. My Doc does require one for some patients, but not for me. Not sure why he doesn't require one for me, but... Maybe your doc is like mine. I'm putting myself on a modified low carb high Protein diet.

Hi Gretchen,

I am Dec 4th also. We have 10 days and a wake-up!! My surgeon gave me a pre-op diet to follow for one week before surgery. Technically it should start Thursday, but since that is Thanksgiving, I am hoping she will let me start on Friday. I can have Adkins Protein Shakes (GNC), clear broth Soups, sugar free Jello, SF popsicles and SF fudgesicles, the lower sugar fruit juices such as apple and orange, light yogurts (3/day), 1/2 cup cottage cheese (3/day), and sugar free drinks such as Crystal Light and variations of same. I have started a modified version today and had Protein shakes and a reasonable dinner. I kept busy with an art quilt project nost of the day, and did not have any problems. I believe the key for me is to keep my mind and hands busy! I am so anxious to get this show on the road!

I see the surgeon on Wednesday after all my labs are drawn and she will give me my post-op diet at that time. She went over it quickly at my consultation, and it sounded pretty standard.

I have not told a lot of people about this - my DH, of course, and my kids, and a couple of close friends. I figure there is plenty of time for me to share later if I choose to. Meanwhile, "I am eating smaller portions and exercising." After all - that is the truth.

Thanks. I was really out of control eating up until my pre-op diet date, so I wasn't sure if I'd be able to stick to it. It's weird how food is addictive. Once you get a few days out, it' not as bad. Good luck and thanks for the support!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
