I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?

Thanks!!! Just so you know I ordered the 16 variet pack to try all of them. Now what other things can you mix them with. I had some of the sf/ff cheesecake pudding and I made it and added 1 scoop of my chocolate Protein Powder drink mix. I devided it in 1/2 and at one portion......OMGGGG it was sooooo good and filling:thumbup:Thanks for the great tip!!!

Did you make the pudding like that before or after I recommended it? I'm glad you liked it!!! It's the perfect afternoon snack for me - it just means I've been buying more milk than usual, haha.

You should try making oatmeal from scratch, using the plain oats you buy at the store. Mix in a scoop of Protein powder (your choice of flavor, but this is where chocolate tastes gooooood), a packet of Splenda, chopped walnuts and raisins/dried cranberries. Then of course, add some Water and cook it like you would normally cook oatmeal, only you'll need a little extra water since you added protein powder to the mix. :) It makes a really hefty portion though, so cut the portion in half and only use half a scoop of protein powder if you've got really good restriction.

It's not a Protein Drink, it's a Protein powder that you mix with milk to make your protein drink. The brand I buy is called Optimum Nutrition 100% whey Protein Gold Series. They've got all sorts of yummy flavors!!! And they're all about 24g of protein per scoop, about 110cals and 5g carbs. :)

Optimum Nutrition at DPS Nutrition - The Nation's leader in Discount Nutrition

Thanks I need to pick some up because my Protein Shakes don't have enough protein per serving.

ooooo That sounds good too! Can we have walnuts and raisins?? Just curious.....every doctor says something different. NOW... I had not made it yet, I read your post, checked the cabinet for pudding choices and sure as heck I had sf/ff cheesecake pudding!! I made it right away and actually just ate the other 1/2:tongue_smilie:I ordered the variety pack of protein powder. What else can you put these flavors in??

Well, I'm all tapped out for suggestions. But I'm really glad you ordered a sampler pack - I'm sure you'll like them all, they're really good.

Nuts and raisins are fine as long as you've moved onto solid foods. If you're still on mushies, then I'd hold off on the nuts and raisins for now.

Does anyone know how many calories we should be taking in on a daily basis or how much Protein? I'm going to start cataloging everything on Sunday. I do have a call into my dietician but i was just wondering if anyone knew. Thanxs:wink2:

If you want to be generic about it (and nothing about the Lap Band seems generic in the slightest) - I would say between 1000 to 1200 calories a day, and at least 60g of Protein a day. Those are the numbers I've read the most.

Of course, you can't eat all 60g of protein at once - your body can only use 20-25g at a time, so you have to break it up into 3 different meals.

And as far as calories go, by changing your calorie intake every other day (by no more than 200cals/day) you are keeping your body from getting used to anything, thus keeping up your metabolism and assisting your weight gain. Now, I've got no concrete evidence about this one - but I've read several on this site who say that works for them. Along with exercise, of course. They say 900cal one day, 1000cal the next, then maybe 1200cal, then back to 1000cal, then up to 1100cal, etc etc.

Wow I'm not anywhere near that many calories and no where need that much protein:huh2:

I only took in 45 calories for Breakfast !!! I called My ditician becuase I have no idea how to balance veggies and fruit and Dairy alll on 2 oz a meal with no Snacks inbetween. Last night on the treadmill I stayed on till I 375 calories. that was probably what I ate for the day!!!

I'm concerned as to why you're only on 2oz per meal. Are you having 6 meals a day? You can't consume less than 800cals per day and expect to lose weight, because at that point your body will go into starvation mode, your metabolism will fall out of whack, and your body will hold onto every calorie you give it, for fear it won't get any more for awhile. Once you reach solid foods, you should be eating 3 normal meals a day (basically 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food at a time) and you should definitely be getting most of your Protein from solids rather than Protein Drinks.< /span>

Then again, every doctor is different. :)

I just returned from a visit with the nutritonist. I asked her about over eating....she said at this stage, until a fill...eat until you are satisfied...you are still healing. I haven't had a Protein Shake in a week. I purchased a "Magic Bullet" before surgery. Most things go in it. I mush chicken and fish.

I was also told it is very important to eat every 4 hours whether you are hungry or not. I've made several different dishes that are high in Protein and satisfy me.

She also told me NOT to starve myself. We need to eat in order to heal.

My dr. said your pouch only holds 2oz:sad: So I called my Dietician and she said I can go up to 3oz Per meal and to take in 60-80 grams of Protein a day. Can I tell you happy that makes me!!!:) And she said to have something inbetween meals if I'm really hungry and try to make it high in protein. So i figured if I pick up some of the protein powder you talked about.

Hey Ladies,

This has been the MOST interesting thread the past few days...I've been reading a lot, copying down product names and ideas, and very much enjoying the exchange.

I was banded on the 17th and am transitioning to solid food with very little trouble. Tried a sandwich this week and got a little stuck, but nothing too painful. I will not try it again for a while, though...I LOVE bread, but it's not my friend right now.

I love the ideas about adding Protein powder to SF pudding - I have a couple of boxes at home, so I'll be trying that as soon as my protein arrives (which I ordered this morning). I know I'm not getting enough protein (I do track what I'm eating) and may add my Protein Shakes back in as another poster suggested - between meals.

So far, Soups have been great for me - reasonable amounts of protein, lots of veggies, low fat, and everything goes down really well. I also found deviled ham and chicken go down pretty easy - the trick is to find lower fat and sodium versions.

Keep up the good work, all - you are inspiring and educating me as well! I'm back in the gym this week - have gone two days so far, and today will be my third. Monday and Tuesday I have classes at night, so I'll have to go another day on the weekend.

We will all be healthier in 2009!:wink2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
