I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

There will be a two week Medifast diet prior to surgery. I have done the "last supper" thinking some, but am finding with each passing day that turning away from bad options is getting easier, or just eating a small amount and walking away rather than stuffing as much as I can. Not sure if it is nerves, the psychological knowledge that I have a tool to help me coming up or what. But I am glad for it. I was of normal weight (high end of normal) as a teen and young woman, but its been over 15 years now since I have been at a normal weight. I am almost scared when I try to imagine what that would feel like again.

I will be banded Nov.3rd! I only have 30 days left! I'm getting so excited, I called my surgeon's office today to check in with them since my initial appt. was way back in August. I scheduled my pre-op appt. on the 29th. WOW!! I'm so ready for the change!! My doctor requires a 2 week pre-op diet for those with BMIs 40+ and only 1 week for those with BMIs below 40. I am at 37 maybe 38. I was thinking of doing two weeks just to be on the safe side or maybe start a couple days before the "official" start day.

My surgery is scheduled for November 6th. I start my pre-op testing this week and next week. My sleep study is on Friday evening.

I have been trying not to do the last supper thing as it won't help me in the long run.

Another Novemberian here! I initially was denied by my ins. co. because my PCP didn't provide the proper information needed for weight mgmt., and he turned out to be a completely callous and ignorant man -after 20+ years of treating me! It turns out that MY conversation with the ins. co. medical director encouraged him to turn the decision around and I was approved in under 2 weeks after the denial - no thanks to my PCP - who, by the way, I am leaving and finding another PCP now. In any case, my original October date has been changed to November 18th and I am feeling all of the many exciting, fearful and complete spectrum of conflicting feelings about the surgery. Basically, all I want to do is wake up from the surgery, then I'll take each day as it comes. I had some complications from the only other surgery I've had - rotator cuff surgery - which put me in the hospital for about 4 days after a "routine, same-day surgery", so I am somewhat scared of the procedure itself and possible complications. I am staying positive though, because my surgeon, Dr. Noel Williams of Univ. of Penn. hasn't lost any one yet and is considered to be one of the best bariatric surgeons anywhere. So.. I guess I'm in good hands and just have to trust God. I'll be thinking of all of you other November bandsters as we move forward toward a better, healthier life!

Lauren

Had my initial consultation yesterday. Surgery is tentatively scheduled for Nov 14th but likely will change it to the 21st due to my significant other being unable to get the 14th off work. Got my huge packet of information about pre and postop diets etc.

They kept congratulating me, which felt weird. I am too scared to be excited really, but I am definitely hopeful. The two intake coordinators are both bandsters...one has lost 200 lbs and kept it off 7 years, the other 100 lbs and kept it off over 2 years. They both looked fantastic.

I didn't get denied by my insurance company. But I have waited over a year to have this done.

I have been researching the lapband for over three years. Last July I was going to see my doctor but found a lump under my arm. After a conversation with my doctor, I had a ultrasound and had the lump removed. They found two more lumps and after they were biopsy'd they found Diffused Large B Cell Lymphoma. This is a form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. After 6 treatments of chemotherapy and losing all the hair on my body. I am in remission.

Now after all that I saw my family doctor and my oncologist and they both said go for the lapband not the gastric (just in case of re-occurrance). With my BMI of 48 I had to do nothing else to qualify for the insurance. But the doctor wanted the world. I had insurance approval in 2 days.

From my initial doctors appointment to the scheduled surgery date it is less than 2 months.

Now that the surgery is less than a month away (November 6th) I am having all those anxiety issures. Trying not to do the last meal thing and just keep riding my exercise bike (up to 25 minutes a day working towards 45 before the surgery date-personal goal)

Chris

Hey there everyone! I am officially a november BANDSTER and damn proud of it!! WOO HOO.. I am so excited. My date is November 10th with Dr. Tishler from Connecticut Surgical Group. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who is going through all of these mixed emotions right now. I keep wondering if Im doing the right thing. But I know I am. I start my pre-op diet on monday 10/20. I know its going to be tough, but it will be worth it. Is anyone else doing a three week pre-op diet? Also, what is everyone bringing with them to the hospital? And, what are somethings that you are putting in the pantry for when you arrive home?

Well it's coming up, November 24 is my banding, just prior to Thanksgiving. I am looking forward to a few months down the road, after everything levels out. It sounds pretty time consuming making all the changes I'll need to make over the next 2 months. Just the grocery shopping and preparation, as I'll still need to prepare a dinner each night for my daughter. :D

Just found out my surgery date yesterday, I'm November 24th also WHOO-HOO!!!

Only problem is, none of my friends or family is nearly as excited as I am. They're actually sort of nonchalant it seems...My doctor hasn't given me any specific pre-op diet besides eating healthier and cutting out juice so it almost doesn't seem real. Anyone else feel that way?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
