I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Hey Monika!

I think most of us are going through this in some form or another. There is always someone in your life that you really care about that just does not understand the reasoning behind doing the lapband. I have been kind of getting the same reaction from my best friend too. I talk with her about everything and she just does not seem to be supportive or happy for me. I finally sit her down and talked with her about the whole procedure and really educated her about the lapband and why I was doing this surgery. I think she finally understood. In some ways I think that maybe she is unsure of how I will be or act if I lose a lot of weight. I just kept reassuring her that I will still be me. Just healthier and less heavier!!!!

Good luck!

I get banded on Nov. 18th! YIPPEE

I'm another November Bandster! My surgery is scheduled for the 7th and I too am soooo excited! Glad to hear others went through the "Last Supper" syndrome. I have eaten my last solid food this evening. My doctor has me on liquids for the 5 days before surgery. I am scared of doing without caffeine for that long. Good for you amylynns for starting early. I can't say I'm nervous or shocked Cappy but I am trying to grasp how this will truly change my life.

Hi Everyone

November 17th for me. I'm scared and nervous and excited all at the same time. For me the main reason for doing this is to get off my CPAP machine (I have severe sleep apnoea). I really hate it.

Good luck everyone - we're into November now so we're all getting closer

Hi Everyone!

My "band date" is November 18th. I had my "last super" for lunch today. Tomorrow I meet with the nurse for a two hour mandatory "what to expect" meeting and then the surgeon tomorrow afternoon.

I have so many emotions running right now. I'm scared, more of the acutal surgery than anything else. I haven't been in the hospital since the birth of my son who's 18yrs old.

WOW it looks like lots of us have the 18th for a date. It's got to be lucky...lol... I don't have to diet until 5 days before surgery so I have one more week of Solids trying not to go through the "Last Supper and pack it on before surgery. I have to take up a hobbie to keep my hands busy!!! Good Luck to all.

I will say a prayer! Take a deep breath and picture how you will look in one year! You will do great and it will be over quick. Before you know it, you will be back home!

Hi Everyone

I haven't been told to do anything before my op on the 17th. I have to go for pre-admission app on the 13th. My letter just says to fast the morning of my actual operation. Is this normal or should I expect to be told something different of the 13th? My friends and I are planning to Celebrate my birthday on the 14th cos I will be in hospital on my actual birthday. I don't want to miss that too

Good morning All-Stars!

It's officially 2 weeks until my band date and I am so excited I can't stand it! I start my self-imposed semi-liquid eating plan today...2 Protein Shakes during the day for Breakfast and lunch, fruit as a snack, and a "normal" meal for dinner. "Normal" meaning high-protein, low fat. Probably a WW meal, a Lean Cuisine, or some such.

I'm holding steady at a 10 lb loss right now, but would love to lose a little more before surgery. I figure anything I can do to help the surgeon's job be a little easier, I'm going to do!

Increasing my Water intake as well - anytime I feel hungry, I'm going to drink water (unless it's time to eat). I'll also pick up my knitting and crocheting again so I can keep my hands busy. I've already got a home improvement project that I'm going to do while I'm home recovering, and a plan to do multiple short-range walks while recovering.

I want to be one of my doc's star patients...and I have an ulterior motive. I've read in several magazines and books that African-American's don't seek out LB surgery because they either don't know about it, or don't feel it's for them. If it's God's will, I'd love to be a spokesperson for the surgery for my doctor. I've done some public speaking, so if I can help someone else get this life-saving procedure by talking about my experience, I'll do just that!

Well - finally - Tomorrow (Tuesday Nov. 4) is my surgery. I am both excited and a little aprehensive. I am trusting the Lord for the results. I am doing this so I might do a better job physically living for Him. Also, I do this for my spouse and children. So I might be more for them. Finally I do this for myself. Oh to be healthy again. What a joy that will be.

Hip! Hip! Hooray!

November 6th is my lucky date.

I'm new to the site, and extremely excited, apprehensive, ready, not sure, and on and on. I've watched my daughter's success over the last 18 months and am greatly motivated by that.

best of luck onyour surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
