I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I wish I was having Constipation issues...instead I'm opposite. :grouphug: It sucks horribly I want it to go away. HOping it will soon. :grouphug:

I've gotta say, that was the worst part of the whole thing. Mine was liquid and damn near explosive for 3 days. :grouphug:

Ginny, I can relate to what you had to say, my parents have been gone for many years and I could have enjoyed their support trying to raise my daughter Katie. Being a lone parent is lonely, though I have some great sisters and a wonderfully supportive cousin. Some of my friends know about the surgery but no one at work or church know. We are all on a journey and will be learning lots of lessons over the next months and years. I spent some time praying for God to help me through on this one as I was feeling prior to surgery "how in the he.. did I let everything get so out of control. I know that my depression since Walt died allowed me to escape through eating whatever I wanted. Without food I'll need to channel my emotions into something new, something more positive. I know you can do that also, set your mind to it Ginny. Together we're all walking into our new lives!

Ginny,

I understand agree with what you said about the food. A friend's daughter was banded 3 years ago and is doing great! She just got into a size 12, down from a size 34 I think she said, and she's doing fantastic. She said the toughest thing to do is realize that food is NOT your best-friend. It's one of those friends that talk to you nicely, but whispers behind your back, and by that I mean my backside! LOL So, i've got a new best-friend now. It's me. And I have to do what's right for me!

Oh! And I was banded yesterday! Yeah! And i'm on my way. I've only taken 3 pain pills, and will probably not take more. It's a relief to be on this road now.

My best wishes and prayers to all that are still waiting, or have been banded!

Happy Holidays to all!

Rhonda

Congratulations on your banding and to everyone who has been banded recently!

Rhonda, I love what you said. Food is my Frienemy! I am my new best friend. :)

Someone on the board, forgive me for not remembering their name, has a siggie that says, "If hunger is not the problem, then food is not the answer." So true, so true.

In AA they say, "if you drink over a problem, you now have TWO problems." So I'm going to use both of those thoughts when I'm tempted to do some emotional eating.

I also like, "Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels." I have to say healthy instead of thin, because I'm not that motivated to become thin.

I don't want to go down the diabetes road, like my brothers and my best friend. My blood sugar has been close enough to scare me. I also want to be able to go to the beach without having to stop every 15 feet, catch my breath and wait for the pain in my hips and knees to subside so I can go on. I hate that my twelve year old daughter has had to deal with this. When we go somewhere that takes physical effort, we have to stop once in a while for me to recuperate.

So here's to a happy, healthy, future!!! YAY!! We can do it.

Ginny,

Regarding diabetes, I know just what you mean. My A1C came back diabetic in June.....that was the straw. I tried documenting everything that went into my mouth and still didn't lose but a few pounds. I guess diabetes "scared me straight". Dr Singh took me off all my diabetes meds after surgery, my PCP wants to see me in a month. My blood sugar has been pretty normal since I left the hospital.

Everyday I feel better....more in control. I researched lap band for two years but just couldn't make that final move....well, diabetes made my decision for me.

When do you begin the mushie stage? I see Dr Singh this Tuesday and hope to move to the next level. I'm not hungry, just tired of liquids and the smell of Protein Shakes still turns my stomach upside down....

Well, I woke up to a nice bowl of Malto Meal. This was the first day of mushies. Wow, what a nice change from the past two weeks prior to surgery and the five days post. I did fine today, not really hungry, but ate, so I keep getting better. I had a little more gas pain in the shoulder, but it seems like I've found when I lay down, ie. take a nap, the pain goes away, not sure the correlation or if there is one.

Each day I am feeling much better and I know I'll be ready to go back to work on Monday. I hope everyone out there is doing well and enjoying a positive recovery.

hi everyone, congrats to all, I haven't been on much since the surgery, it went great, I decided not to fill pain meds and just take liquid tylenol and it worked, I don't do pain meds to easy, I sleep for hours and out of it. I had surgery on Wed 19th and went back to work on Monday. Worked three days and then off for the holidays. I made it thru the holidays just fine, was so happy, ate cream chicken Soup and applesauce and bowed and said thank you when everyone laughed and clapped LOL While everyone ate Desserts got a cousin to go for a walk with me. I am up to 1 mile a day on the walking now. Haven't got sick and feeling really lucky after reading some of your post.

Tuesday I go to mushies and looking forward to it :cursing:

That is great to hear. I had surgery on the 26th. I feel great too. Tender at the port site and a bit of gas under my left shoulder. All in all a great surgery. I go to Dr. on Wed for my follow-up visit. Then I get to start mushys. :cursing: Glad to hear yours went so well too.

Hello everyone! I had lapband surgery on the 24th. My surgeon was a female and a Bariatric specialist. She even has commercials on TV! Well I am sore and really feel restriction already...is that normal? I did good on TG and just had fluids, no appetite. I started the one week phase today, which included FF cottage cheese that was supposed to be blended, but I just smashed it up. Do they mean blend in a blender?? My port site is sore too. Anyone else feel restriction right away?

Hi everyone, Day 13 after surgery and I'm on 2oz of soft foods per meal with 2oz of a Protein Shake inbetween meals. I have my HUNGRY days and I try to snack on somethign high in Protein low in fat anf low in calories. Going to start a real walk today. I've had extreame pain onmy right side for about a week and half now but hoping that the walk will help.

ADVICE: be carefull on stairs and lifting!! I was groggy a week ago and almost fell backwards down my stairs!! I was able to grab the railing and catch myself but in the mean time I pulled something and have extreame pain in my belly button and stomach area. So take it from me and relax an obey your dr's orders.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
