I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

My doctor says I can have grits and oatmeal during my Full liquids phase, which is Day 3-14 - which is now. I have done sugar free pudding with no problem, so I really wanna try some watered down grits.

But I'm scared. :rolleyes2: Is anyone else scared to death to eat something of substance in these first days after surgery? I'm on Day 5 and really doing quite well, although I've lost 6.6lbs since the day before surgery. Should I let myself eat grits??

Did my pre-op pics tonight. Anyone else done them?

Oh yes! I did them the night before surgery. They're horrendous! I hope I have lots of success because that's the ONLY way I'm letting those bad boys out of the camera!!!! :rolleyes2:

Bill, I'm also on the 24th, cheers to us! I start the pre-op tomorrow, so tonight was it, then onto two weeks of Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch and then a lean cuisine for dinner or something similar. There's some sadness and relief all mixed into my thoughts!

Hey I have a question. Started my preop diet on the 27th of Ocotber, the first week I lost 10 lbs. I weighed in this moring for my 2 week and I have lost 4 lbs. I still have done the same exact thing, no change. Do you think the first 10 lbs is mostly Fluid. I am at my required loss for the surgery, just a little disappointed for the second week total....Surgery is Friday, got three more days before I leave, maybe I will drink more Water during the day.

Yes, the first amt of weight you lose is Fluid. Don't expect to continue losing 10 lbs a week! 14 lbs in two weeks is amazing, but after the band expect 1-2 lbs per week.

My surgery date is Nov 25th two days before Thanksgiving. I have decided not to tell anybody except my wife and kids.

They are keeping me in the hospital until the 26th. My wife's family and my family both live nearby. Typically we go to my mom's house for a full Thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat (obscure Alice's Restaurant reference) and then have another one at her mom's later that same day (see how I got so big?). If I show up and don't eat that will be bad but if I don't show up that will also be bad. I guess I will just have to be "under the weather". The problem is my mom can always tell when I am lying.

As someone who was recently banded, let me tell you how you're going to feel on Day 2. In pain! Bloated! Somewhat nauseous! Tired! Please, do yourself a favor, and tell everyone what you're doing. You will be worn out just walking from the car through the front door. Not to mention trying to socialize for several hours? I worry for you. You really need to tell everyone involved that you'll be having surgery and you'll need to recuperate. Tell them you had a hernia repaired! That's what a lot of people do. That will explain your stomach surgery and why you're tired and sore and why you aren't eating. But in all honesty, you won't feel like going to a Thanksgiving dinner with family on Day 2. You'll feel like laying in bed and sleeping!

Please keep us posted what you decide to do! Good luck!

Xtightend - I agree with Jmegirl - two days after surgery you are NOT going to feel like sitting up straight and socializing...tell your family you had surgery, but don't tell them what kind.

That isn't their business, but when you don't show up, they will need an answer...

Protect yourself after surgery - I've heard people mention on the site that the gas pains don't hit until a day or two after the surgery sometimes, so that may also happen to you. I'm not wishing it on you, but if that happens, you won't want to be around a whole bunch of folks.

Your health is first - they'll get over you NOT being at holiday dinner and if they don't, OH WELL!

:hurray:Wow! I'm having so much fun playing with my signature, thanks to all of your cool signatures, that I'm barely worried about my insurance approval!

I received a letter from Cigna saying that they didn't see my surgery as being medically necessary. The good news is that it also said, "this is not a denial", they just need more medical info to prove that it IS necessary. Either my surgeon's office didn't include everything, this is an automatic type of scare tactic, or maybe Cigna will be really tough to get approval from. Great grammar, I know!

How about the reviewer comes to my house and I will SIT on them. That will make two of us that have a medical necessity!!!! :w00t:

Here's a shout out to all the other 24th-ers that we've been hearing from!!! Froggi, are you still out there? We have company.

I will cross my fingers and toes and hope that the approval comes through on time.

Big hugs to all the Novembers that are recovering right now!!! Keep up the good work.:cool2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
