I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Haven't been on the thread in a while, but all testing done and surgery is next Thursday, November 13. I haven't seen my dr. since approval but at my first appointment he said I should try to lose 5 to 10 lbs before surgery. I haven't gained but I haven't lost. I see him Friday--I'll probably try to do 2 shakes and a Protein & salad meal Wednesday and Thursday--that'll help with a pound or 2 (maybe)--tonight I'm having Chinese and watching election coverage.

How are you bandsters doing that have been banded already in November?

Oh--to the person that asked, I have Aetna and was approved in about 5 days.

Good luck and Happy BandDay.

Crystal:biggrin:

I had surgery yesterday and just got home today. I'm doing great.

Good Luck to You!

Crystal,

We have the same surgery date. I feel mixed emotions about the surgery , as well. However, I know that this is the right decision for me, and so I pray for covering, protection and commitment to be successful with my choice.

I am going to banded in about 6 hrs, when the hospital called me, they told me if i am on my period to not use a tampon to use a pad and if i start while i am being banded they will take care of me, they say it happens all the time.

My surgery is tomorrow November 6th -- All the emotions are hitting hard -- want this -- don't want this -- want to eat real food instead of liquid nuts (even ate eggs this morning -- just wanted something to chew lightly) Now on my stuff again.

Just want to get this started and done mostly !

I start my pre-op diet on Friday, meeting my surgeon today. We'll probably take my pre-op pics tomorrow. I am getting both nervous and excited!

Hey Notorious Novembers!

I'm thrilled that we have a new President, and I'm on day 3 of my self-imposed pre-op eating plan (I hate the word diet).

I've had a minor setback - my GP called and said my Iron levels are low - 28 when he wants them at 32 - 34. I told him I was taking iron pills (2 per day) and he said if I was taking one per day to take one per meal! He's not sure if it will postpone my surgery (scheduled for Nov 17th) and I'm praying that it doesn't.

I've bought additional iron pills (ran out of the old ones) which have 50 mg of iron per pill, and I'm taking 2 per meal, Breakfast and lunch. Hopefully that will be enough that I won't have to reschedule my surgery. I worked out the time off from my job and everything!

Please send prayers and good wishes my way that I get to have my surgery on the day I was scheduled and that all will be well with me.

Hey ER, I am thrilled with our new president as well! SO hopeful for our country and the world.

You may already be aware, but if you take your Iron in conjunction with Vitamin C it will bind better and be better absorbed by your body.

I found this website helpful:

Iron

Good luck!

My surgery is tomorrow morning. I am so excited, but also really scared... I am having the sleeve rather than the band, but I bet the pre-op jitters are the same!

Any advice on how long before I can be up and playing with my littles ones (5 & 7) after surgery??? My doctor was vague about how long till I will feel 100% (understandably)... I am also nervous about pain.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
