Okay, first I will apologize if this thread offends anyone. But I have to ask. I had surgery 9/23 and everything is going great. I am on a liquid diet. Going to the bathroom has not been a problem. My BM's have been very easy up until two days ago. I have not done anything for two days. But I don't feel constipated either. Is this normal? The reason I ask is that I have always had a problem with constipation/hemorrhoids and I sure don't want that problem to come back. I realize I don't have much food in me but I just want to make sure that this is normal and just still my body adjusting to everything it has gone through. Thank you.

Hi ya ..

Im the same as u , BM'S not normally an issue , I was banded last week also , (6 days post)

constipation or less frequent bowel movement this is normal and due to the following factors :

We are taking much smaller quantities and there is very little fibre in our diets now .

If u suspect u are constipated there are 3 things to check :

MAKE SURE YOUR DRINKING 2 LITRES Fluid PER DAY

INCLUDE 1-2 CUPS OF DILUTED fruit /VEG juice PER DAY OR TRY Syrup OF FIGS OR PRUNE juice AS A GENTLE BOWEL STIMULANT .

MAKE SURE YOUR NOT SITTING OR LYING AROUND TOO MUCH .

If this continues to be a prob go to your Dr for advice , and a non bulk forming laxative may be perscibed like lactulose .

Hope this helps

Sas x

Hi there-

I had the same problem, I had my surgery on 9/8 and it took me 3 weeks to finally go. The doctor recommended Miralax. Also make sure you drink plenty of fluids. Hope you feel better....

Are you getting in plenty of Water?

I noticed things have changed for me but I think it is from such low intake. BM's are not as frequent and the volume is very small, like a small child (sorry if TMI). It might be just find if it resolves itself over a day or two and you are not having symptoms.

Hi. I had surgery on 09/25 and my surgeon did say that we would notice a difference in our BM since we are not taking in as much. He just said to make sure that I keep getting my fluids in. He also recommended Miralax IF Constipation seemed to be a problem. He said that our BM should basically follow our amount of intake. Not much going in, not much is going to come back out (sorry if that is TMI).

Hi. Your intake is very low right now and less out less in, also you are still all stitch uped so you can't um...strain so much.

It's normal. If you feel pain or you feel there is a problem, contact your Dr., of course, but I am telling you words from my Doctors mouth.

But Like I said if you really feel like it is extreme and there is pain you should contact your Doctor.

:cool2:

And good luck on your lapband journey.

Thanks guys. I am thankful you are all here to talk with. I don't feel any pain, fullness, anything like that ... just was wondering. When something changes I am one of those people that goes "now, wonder why?". I am sure all will be fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
