Let the liver shrinking begin!

Recommended Posts

:cool2: So today is the first day of my Optifast journey to surgery. Surgery is on the 16th October - am I scared - hell yes! ;) Am I excited - yes - am I worried it wont work? definitely ... but my other option is stroke, diabetes, heart attack etc not really options at all right?

I feel this is the right thing for me to do .. at this time in my life .. I feel I am in the right head space and am motivated to succeed when I have rarely been motivated before.

And so my first day of Optifasting to shrink my liver before surgery began.. and you know what ? it wasn't even that tough .. only 2 more weeks to go and then 2 weeks after .. and then the rest of my life awaits .. hopefully as a thin (ner) person for the rest of my life.

I'm ready.

The best of luck to you, you will be so happy I am sure. I am really really feeling great. Losing about 2 lbs a week and can eat most anything except fatty fried stuff. Small amounts and excercise and I keep my calorie limit to around 1200 a day. You won't be disappointed. Once you get through the first few days after sugery it will most probably be clear sailing.

Congratulations on taking this big step.

Thanks for the kind words of support .. Day2 and I'm feeling fine with the Optifast ... at least I don't have to think about what to have for lunch !

Fatty foods never agreed with me anyway so if I can't have them .. no biggie

Way to go, bemused!! You're off to a great start with a great attitude. My two hurdles on the pre-op was the second day (that was the first and only day I felt a lot of hunger) and the first weekend (which happened to coincide with Labor Day). After that, the time flew. I wish you the best of luck!!!

Thank you for your support too! Yesterday I stopped by a friend's house and she put out DATE SCONES .. now I have been known to walk over cut glass for date scones .. and I resisted .. then I thought one little piece .. what the heck.. then I thought no .. and the whole time we sat at the table there the scones sat. They were big ! they were datey! they were fresh! ... and I am so proud to report that when I left there house not a crumb had passed my lips .. the end.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
