Just got banded Sept 29, 08. I'm happy, I'm sad, I'm scared.

This is my 2nd surgery in 3 months, the first was having my gallbladder removed in July. This experience is worse than that one.

Especially since I can't eat much yet. I haven't decided if I regret having this done or not, but it's done, no turning back now.

I know this forum is going to get me through all the hard times, so thanks in advance! :)

Hi! I was also banded on the 29th and am feeling the same as you. I've had terrible gas pains and nothing seems to help. :frown:Not even walking. I'm wondering if I made the right decision but its too late to have 2nd thoughts now. You are so lucky your insurance paid for it as I am a self-pay and feel like I have a lot riding on this procedure. I haven't been able to eat much but I am hungry and my stomach is growling. I also feel as if there is something stuck in my chest. I know that there isn't though as I've been on Clear Liquids. Now I'm nervous for my 1st fill if this isn't restriction.:( I do have to remember this is only the 2nd day post-op. Hang in there! I think its normal to feel all the emotions. Its a life changing event. We can do this!:smile2:

I just wanted to remind you that when you have your first fill your doc makes adjustments according to how you feel food goes down. They may not even need to put anything in there at all, but right now you are still swollen and there will be an end I promise. Just hang in there! I went through the same thing but mostly only the first day and the evenings for the first 3-4 days. I kept asking myself why did I do this? Then everydau I am confronted with yet another reason as to why I did this and it makes me realize that despite the aches and pain I would never go back. Good Luck and I hope you both start feeling better about this decision soon.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
