Mornings - M, W, F - 30 Minute Run (With Walking Intervals, Building up to 5k & adding minutes based on my ability)

Nights - M Zumba Class, T 20/20/20 Class, F Body Sculpting

I missed my morning run this morning. The drill sergeant/aka terrorist interrogator/intructor caused my body last night to hurt in places I didn't know existed. That carried over to this morning - my back legs (from bum to knee) are in pain today. So - I rested this am. Tonight I'm going to the gym and doing something...I haven't figure out what yet. I may check out the aerobics schedule or do the elliptical or get my run in...maybe it will be nice outside tonight. I do want to run.

It is NOT October. I refuse to play into this. It's still June, isn't it? ISN'T IT????

*puts on bathing suit, flip flops, sunhat and laughs hysterically*

I'm running for five minutes at a stretch now. Granted, I'm gasping and wheezing by the end of it, but I never thought I'd get to even this point.

During the hurricane my friend who was without power for 2 weeks after, stayed w/me and I got on the treadmill. I think she was expecting a leisurely walk and I busted out in a run. I'll never forget the look on her face - she said, "You're running!"

Uhm, yeah. I am. (For five minutes at a time with a one minute walk session in the middle.)

Okay all...I'm debating about a gym membership and need advice.

I'm broke, for one, and can't pay a lot.

Second, I'm lazy and am scared I'll get a membership and not go. I've done that before, about 10 years ago.

But, the treadmill at home is old and we really need a new one. But, those are 'spensive, too! I think I'd get more out of a gym - if I went. I definitely want to step up the exercise, but there's a time, convenience and money factor.

Any suggestions?

I really like the Y (YMCA) - it isn't as expensive as other gyms. Depending on your work there may be a discount. There are tons of programs they offer and enough equipment/classes that you don't get bored easily.

I'm in! :)

goals for October are 12k meters of swimming, 200 miles of biking, 50 miles of running.

that's awesome kagoscuba - you have a tri this month?

glouc - do you have a Y by you?. i must say 24hr fitness is NO bargain, but i'm in the country and it's really all there is - though a LA fitness is going up nearby as well.

i personally am no good left to my own devices - the treadmill would hold laundry / the elliptical would have bath towels laying on top / dvds & hand weights would just collect dust. the only thing i can do at home, is put the ipod on and go for a run .... on days i can't get to the gym.

i also, when at the gym - really need my trainer to kick my butt a few days a wk. i wouldn't do another 4/5 reps by myself, he pushes me and i can literally see the results.....pyscially & mentally.

so not sure i helped you - maybe go try out a few gyms, a lot give day passes to examine. i would start there & see if it's worth a bit of investment.

Thanks! I'm not sure about a Y...I'll have to check. I would love a personal trainer! I want someone in my face yelling. Huh...growing up, I called that MOM.

They offer personal trainers at the Y as well. I know intially there is no charge for them...I haven't checked into it, but have seen the signs...free is next to it too. My schedule is out of whack right now (we have one good working car and the kids schedules), so it is hard for me to committ to a "timely" schedule...I feel like I'm letting someone down that shows up just for me. When I get closer to goal and get some of this fat off, I'm definately looking into that.

The Y I attend has a women's fitness area (locker rooms); you can have your own locker, they have a sauna, whirlpool, shower (that lead to an indoor pool), and massage services (very reasonable and I'm getting one soon). There's also spinning, weights, free weights (mainly men), aerobics (Zumba, Pilates, 20/20/20, Yoga just some of the classes). They also offer Water aerobics. Indoor basketball and volleyball too. There is a stretch room and indoor raquetball...I like the variety they offer.

Oh and Spinning is Evil, Evil, Evil...my a** hurt for a week after that class.

Thanks Lulu! Yep, I have an end-of-season Tri scheduled for 10/12. Depending on babysitting, I may not be able to make it though. My wife is going to Boston that weekend, and our normal babysitter flaked out by telling me this morning she can't make it on 10/12. Hopefully, something will work out, because races don't give refunds and I've already paid my entrance fee.

No Y near me, within reason anyway.

I think I'll look into one that's near me, Sound Fitness.

Last night ran/walked my mile. Almost beat my time. I was determined not to do anything last night. I was tired, grumpy, didn't wanna!!!

But, I got dressed, and did it. I was only going to go 10 minutes - break a sweat and stop....then I kept going. Then, after my mile on the treadmill, I went for a cool down walk outside.

Oh, yeah, and I did laps in my mother's pool before that. We went to her place for dinner and while it was cooking I swam and did Water aerobicsy-type stuff.

With all good intentions - I missed Pilates last night. I ended up having to work late and then had plans with the family. We didn't get home until late - so I didn't do anything yesterday. Today is a new day.

Good morning Warriors,

Usual walk with the DDog and DD this morning (DH was fixing the washer)...no workout yesterday (Wed) because it's my normal day off, but did walk with DDog in AM and walked at lunchtime.

Today would normally be a gym day, but I have a social - work event tonight, so I'm going to miss my workout. I will walk at lunchtime, though. Tomorrow is Friday, so I'll do my usual 3-walk + gym workout. Since I missed a couple of workouts this week, I'll get in some extra walks or workouts on the weekend. The leaves are falling around my house, so that will likely be a part of whatever I'm doing.

Have a great day, everyone! :cool2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
