His advice can only help. A dietitian will help make sure you are ready for a life after band anyway. Go to the dietitian and listen to what they say. Try it. Most insurance companies will require you follow a 6 month dr supervised plan anyway. Get it started. Who knows? Maybe you can do it without the band. I could take it off, my problem was keeping it off.

Is your dr anti-band, or does he/she just not feel you are a candidate due to your weight being too low or no co-morbities?

He is not anti-band, he just want me to see the dietician and try that route first. I am like you I can take it off, but then I gain it all and some more back. I guess it has just taken me so long to come to this discission that I want to get going. But, I will do it his way, he has always had my best interests at heart.

It is frustrating when you have to wait for something you really want. Have you checked into your insurance requirements? Will they cover it and do they have any special requirements?

Start documenting EVERYTHING. You will probably need your weight history, because they want to know about past weight losses you have experienced and how long they last.

My history from that alone was probably enough. It showed I could lose weight but never kept it off for very long. Good Luck!

Welcome to the group. It would be a good idea to consult the dietician. You need to also know what eating will be like after banding so that you can make an informed decision. I will be banded the end of October; my daughter and wife have just been banded and I went to their appointments along with my own so I understand what eating will be like afterwards. This group is a great place to start and ask a lot of questions and you will get helpful answers.

Hi DianaT, If you have insurance, I would recommend that you contact your insurance provider to determine that WLS is a covered benefit. If it is a covered benefit, you might want to inquire as to the insurance company's requirements.

Example: I have BC/BS and I was required to complete a psyche eval and 6-months of supervised diet. Every insurance provider has different requirements.
