Bama2. Don't be scared. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, to me the worst part was getting the IV started and even at that they were able to get it easily. I always have a hard time with getting the IV started. Everyone at the hospital were so nice. Everything went smooth. Oh, I guess one other thing that was not too great was having to drink that nasty stuff so they could make sure that liquids would go down thru the stomach. The nurse said it was nasty and she wasn't kidding. I had to be at the hospital at 5:30 am for 8:00 am surgery and was ready to go home by 1:30pm. You will do great. Some people say that they wake up and think to themselve, "What have I done", but not me. All I can think of is how much better I am going to feel and look. Next year this time, we will be new women.

Take care and keep us posted.

I'm in Northeastern California and had my surgery done in Reno, Nevada, by Dr. Kozar at Western Bariatric.

I was scared I wouldn't wake up but I did and everything went fine. The IV went in EASY! The hardest thing right now is making myself get up and MOVE! I'm still sore!

Well... I am living in Denison, Texas (North of Dallas) while my Husband is deployed, with my Parents.

I am having surgery in Plano, Texas @ Plano Presbyterian Hospital with Dr. Alan Cribbins.

But... Normally, we are stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base, in Montgomery, Alabama.

I am praying that when he returns from his deployment he gets a new assignment and they PCS us to Tinker AFB (Oklahoma City, OK) or Shepard AFB (Wichita Falls, TX). But, I am not holding my breath.

This is Lone Star Loser. LONE STAR for the GREAT state of TEXAS. Go Longhorns.

HelloPenny. I used to live in Denison, Texas. Went to High School there. My dad was in the Air Force also, and he was stationed at Perrin AFB, but it closed down. Too bad it's not still there and your husband could be stationed there. I love that area up there. After we moved on Base, I had to change schools to Sherman. Then Dad was sent to Viet Nam and we moved to Houston were all of my Mom's family is.

Take care. I hope your husband gets a Texas assignment. Good Luck.

We should trade! I'm not real whippy about Alabama, and would much rather be in Texas or Oklahoma!

LOL, I totally got caught up in the Auburn Alabama controversy living in Alabama. People were like are you Orange or Red??? And I was like neither? Go OU??

My parents got my daughter an OU track suite when she was a newborn. She wore it to my SIL's house. Everyone there said right colors, wrong team.

My SIL called me yesterday and asked if she could get Caitlyn a Crimson Tide bib that said, Alabama Born, Alabama Breed. My Mom, said not to waste the postage!

Got a call from my Mother, driving back home from the game. She was pouting!

Guess we longhorn fans are overwhelming the thread! My son is a junior at UT so I am a fan because ALL our money goes there!!!! No, we lived in Austin when Bergstrom was open and both our boys were born there. We still live close - in San Antonio! I will be banded this coming Monday (13 Oct). Good luck to everyone!!!

Sorry - not too good with this forum thing and I can't look back to see who's husband is deployed - he (and all the soliers) are in my prayers.

:w00t::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I'm quoting myself to be clear that I meant Go LSU Tigers, not Auburn (aren't they the tigers?)! Hahaha! :) I'm only kidding anyway....just "friendly" rivalry, right? I'm just crossing my fingers that we get a win against Florida tonight. Oh, and WOW at the Texas win over Oklahoma!

And to the folks near Dallas...I'm in the Shreveport area, so you're not too far from me. I have in-laws in the Denton area.

Hi Mistydaz. We were banded on the same day. How are you feeling? Have you seen any weight loss since surgery? I am feeling pretty good today but I haven't really lost much. I think yesterday was the first day that I have not had so much gas. I haven't gone back to work yet but today I went the the Fall Fest at church and I think it wore me out. There was a BBQ dinner with all the fixings and believe it or not it didn't bother me not to be able to eat it. In fact the Beans made me sick just to smell them. I had my Protein Shake before I left and drank my Water.< /p>

I am in Austin, Texas.

Good luck on your journey.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
