MGB Mini Gastric Bypass

Recommended Posts

Any discussions for this procedure? Would love to hear from all who have had any experience with this. I was referred by the Bariatric Group ISA for MGB in Tiajuana with Dr. Mario Almanza and Dr. Andres Betancourt.

Havn't seen any threads on above? any info. and info. on their hospital would be most welcome. Thanks, Brenda

First of all, Betancourt is an unethical weasel who lost his medical license. When the reputation of his clinics gets too unsavory, he closes up shop and opens up a new one under a new name. As he recently did when closing his old clinic and opening up the Emmanuel clinic.

Secondly, the mini-bypass is not a recognized procedure by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric surgeons because it's dangerous and doesn't even work that well.

Here is an article on it:

Is The Mini Gastric Bypass The Ideal Weight Loss Solution?

So my advice is to RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN away from these guys and find a reputable surgeon. There are plenty in MX that are affordable and good.

Check out Rumblaut, Aceves, Joya, and Ortiz just for starters.

I'm not sure what a mini bypass is, but I know my insurance doesn't cover it, while it covers all the other WLS procedures.

I read your article and with interest to consider its contents. Thank you.

I would like to refer you to the following site:

I also advise everyone to do their homework, the ultimate decision is personally theirs and you are right to start with a reputable doctor!

Many thanks, Brenda

I have been researching both the MGB and RNYGB ,trying to decide which one I want to have done. Try using google , and UTube to find out basic info. I also suggest typing in "2008 medical articles on Mini Gastric Bypass" on search engines. You don't have to read the whole article, there is usually an abstract that summarizes the article or a summary at the end. I do know there is a surgeon in the south , N Carolina, I belive who does alot and his web site would have alot of info.

Personally, I am always suspect of articles that do not come from well known publications and/or do not list an author.

Good Luck !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
