Tips for when youre banded...

Recommended Posts

Ok, if anyone has any questions, or anything please talk to me, and all the others who have been banded. I have learned a lot on my own, about the band. And a lot of the things that I learned, I was never told by the nutritionist. Anyway, when they say chew chew chew, and small bites, LISTEN. Cause when you get your fills, and you dont do as they say food will get stuck, and it will hurt, ad you will throw it back up just for relief. Do not drink while eating, one, it washes through, and 2, sometimes, you will choke as well, and throw it back up. Take your time eating. And importantly, exercise, you will burn more faster, than normal if you do so. Anyway, if you have anymore questions dont hesitate to ask me. Good luck to all of you.

Hey,

Thanks, I got my band on the 24th. I am feeling fine.

I have been reading on some sites about people that are more than a year down the road and choking some in the hospital. I am well aware of the life style changes but, I am not happy with spending the rest of my life worried about choking and getting food stuck. I have my first follow up on the the 6th.

You could be my saviour I'm struggling! My name is Claire, I live in Cyprus, I was banded 10 weeks ago, I have lost 8kilos, and have 6cc's in my band. I am surviving on 2 Protein Drinks a day, and about 2-3 spoonfuls of normal food for dinner. My surgeon has said today that he would normally expect more rapid weight loss, and maybe my metabolism is too slow. I have been exercising for 30mins eachday on the WII Fit and I sweat! I don't know what else to do, I know this is a respectable weight loss, but I want to speed it up, and he has said today, he does not recommend anymore fills for a minute. What can I get down to make me feel satisfied, Soup is driving me mad, but it breaks my heart cooking for my hubby, and not being able to get it down. So, if you have any advice that can help, it would cheer me up no end! Kind Regards

10 weeks since surgery and you should be well onto solid foods. You should not have to drink Protein shakes all day just to get your calories. My suggestion is that your band is too tight if you cannot hold down more than 3 bites of solid food.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
