Post-Op diet examples

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised that nobody answered your question yet, so I'll try to. Technically, anything is "Ok" within reason, depending on the diet your doctor or dietician wants you to follow. A lot of people try to avoid carbs, but so far I haven't because I am a semi-vegetarian who doesn't like meat very much. I get a lot of my Protein from meat imitations like Gardenburger and Morningstar Farms.

I am at 2 ccs fill and still have not found anything that I am physically unable to eat. There are just some foods that require very careful chewing. For example, I need to chew bread carefully or else it seems to expand in my stomach and hurt.

Basically, I'd say that I eat most of the same stuff I used to eat, but now the quantity is cut in half (that's subject to change if I get another fill, but so far so good). For example, where before I could easily eat an entire bagel, now just half of a bagel is enough to make me feel stuffed. Or I used to be able to eat a big bowl of Cereal, but now I'd estimate I can eat about 1.5 cups of foods such as cereal.

Of course, I avoid all liquid calories and don't eat very high-calorie foods such as chocolate candies or milkshakes. That's probabyl the most radical change to my diet...before I thought nothing of snacking on chocolate candies, but now I realize chocolate has way too many cals in such little servings.

Hi,

I have been trying to limit carbs...i.e bread, rice, potato, Pasta, flour and I consume little to no sugar....i do consume all kinds of veggies, Beans etc....fruits in limited quantity as well. This is what I ate today....

Wake up...on the way to work....EAS strawberry Cream Protein drink (replaces the coffee I use to drink)

Breakfast......2 egg omelet w/cheese & mushroom

lunch.......3 oz tenderloin, small bowl of salad (didnt finish whole meal)...dinner....ceaser salad w/ chicken....small slice of melon

Snack....sugar free popsicle or another EAS drink

I always have hard boiled eggs on hand to eat or to make egg salad with, as well as tuna. Often I will eat tuna a few cracker for lunch. On Sundays I like to cook a whole chicken (the biggest one I can find)....have a leg and some veggies for dinner and make chicken salad out of the rest for lunches during the week.

I do miss pizza....I havent had any since a month or so before surgery....but I have a hard time with bread so I have been afraid to try it.

I am able to eat more than the "1/2 cup rule" I hear so much about.....I have had one fill 1.7cc but I am eating far less than pre-band and making better choices and the weight is still coming off. I dont miss the bloated, unable to move, have to unbutton my pants feeling I use to have when leaving the dinner table. I stop when I am satisfied (physically....if it were up to my head, I would be at the table all night) I imagine I will need another fill sometime soon....but as long as the weight keeps coming off, I am happy.

Hope this helps, good luck to you.

Joann

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
