hanes66 0 Posted September 30, 2008 Hi All, I'm Patti from TX. I've just set my surgery date for November 5th. I have to admit though I'm having a few second thoughts. I've been heavy all of my life. I know that I need to loose the weight for health reasons, but I've been hearing some stories from others on what they can and can't do. Am I ready for this drastic of a life change? I don't know. I know I want to loose weight, and I know it will get easier, but hmmmmmmm. Any thoughts?
stevegoad 32 Posted September 30, 2008 Welcome, Patti. What part of Texas (I know people in Rhode Island or other small states don't really need a city, but there is a lot of Texas you can be from). Glad you're here.
Loseweightin08 0 Posted September 30, 2008 Hey Patti, I know exactly how you feel. I was self-pay, so everything happened very fast! I went to the seminar at the beginning of December. Had the Dr.'s Consultation on December 28th and had surgery on January 14th! A few days before surgery I spent a lot of time on the boards, and started to question myself if I was making the right decision. I started to get really scared and second guess my decision. But, I can tell you it has been the best decision of my life. There will always be ups and downs, but I have committed to this and it works if you really want it and are willing to do the work! You will do great. I can't believe that my surgery was over 8 months ago. The time actually has gone very fast. Good Luck:)
Westtexasdustdevil 0 Posted September 30, 2008 Wish I could be in your spot. Understand how you feel but the first step is always the hardest. I would love to get this done. Right now it looks like the only way I can is Mexico and out of pocket. Take a deep breath and go for it. Rick
lindatatu 0 Posted September 30, 2008 hanes66 I am getting banded on the 13th and my emotions are all over the place! I am having second thoughts but am doing it to get healthier and can't disappoint my family who is counting on me. The way I have been eating this past few weeks - the last supper syndrome, I realize I need it-bad! Good luck
hanes66 0 Posted October 1, 2008 Hey Linda, That is exactly what I am doing. It seems like I am constantly eating right now. I know that I want this but i keep going back and forth. Is it getting any better for you the closer your surgery date comes?
lindatatu 0 Posted October 1, 2008 Hanes66 I started seeing a food therapist and went yesterday when I was an absolute mess. I had to go off hormones before surgery and it is wreaking havoc with my emotions! I work at home and didn't have time for lunch before the appointment etc etc etc. She said the "last supper syndrome" is normal and everybody does it. We talked more abut the future and taking time for myself and discussing my recovery time with my DH because the office is 50' from my bed. I stopped for an excessive amount of ice cream after my appointment and last night unintentionally gave myself a thourough cleansing from both ends. YUK. I think that was a wake up call and I am sick and tired of being sick and tired! I am still not sleeping but going to try and do better with the eating. I will be thinking of you on the 13th (and the 12th as we do our prep and bowel cleansing)

Westtexasdustdevil 0 Posted October 1, 2008 Patty, if you dont mind me asking, what insurance do you have?
hanes66 0 Posted October 1, 2008 I'm BCBS of TX. I had some real ups and downs trying to get the insurance to pay. I went through my 6 months of dr.'s visits, the stress test, and sleep apnea overnight test. I've been overweight me entire life, and this is the biggest i"ve ever been. The sleep study place that I had my test done at went out of business before they sent my results to my doctor. I have a month before my surgery. I want this, but like I said, my emotions are all over the place. I went to the store today to try to find some things that i could eat, what did I do but buy a bunch of junk. I know I want this, I've worked too hard not to have it, but I'm scared. I know that the procedure is reversable, but then that would mean I had failed, and I don't think I could handle that either. Right now, I think, oh I have two weeks before I really have to do anything, before i go to my pre-op appt. Keep posting for me. Every day I look forward to coming home to see what everyone says. It helps so much to know that what i'm feeling is normal.
Westtexasdustdevil 0 Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) See when I called they told me that their was no way they would pay. end of story, So what all did you have to do to finally get approved? This is easy for me to say so take it with a grain of salt. All of us fear the unknown, the what ifs, Its normal but if we let this fear control our lives and make the choices for us, then its not normal. Take a deep breath My grandfather always told us "Dont worry about the mule going blind, Just hitch up the wagon." Took me many years to understand. Dont worry about whats going or might happen, just get the things done now that you need to do. Take care, Rick Edited October 2, 2008 by Westtexasdustdevil
PAULALYNN22 0 Posted October 2, 2008 Hi Patti! I am almost one week post surgery. I felt the same way you did. I was very nervous, anxious, scared, and a million other emotions. The best thing you can do is think positive and know that you have a good support system and after care. My surgery went so quick that I can barely believe I HAVE THE LAP BAND!! I'm still shocked. You will be fine. Its natural to second guess!
hanes66 0 Posted October 2, 2008 Rick, Just a suggestion, but instead of going through the insurance company, go through a company such as LapBand Solutions. That is who I am going through, and they take care of ALL the insurance stuff. They can tell you things about the insurance that they won't tell. Good Luck and keep me posted
