Fills that "work" for 2-3 weeks then STOP!

Recommended Posts

I am so frustrated I have had 3 fills so far I don't know how much per fill or any of that data (my doctor doesn't talk a whole lot!). Anyway my physician wants me to lose 8lbs a month and I do good to lose 4lbs.

The reason for this post is I feel great after my fills and they work for about 2-3 weeks then I feel like I did pre-fill. I can eat as much as a normal person eats at a meal, I get actual hunger pains (audible stomach growling) every 3-4 hours or so and my weight loss completely stops. For example the most recent fill I had worked GREAT I was so happy thinking this time its working right. I lost 3lbs/wk (total of 6lbs) the first 2 weeks of the fill; however when the 3rd week approached I had to eat alot more to get "full" and I was getting hungry again every 3 hours. Now I am 6 weeks post fill and still have only lost that initial 6lbs.

I don't go for another fill for 2 more weeks and I know my doctor will be disappointed in me again for not losing the "8lbs per month".

Is it "normal" to have this type of fill results? Is it normal for me to fill like the fill quit working after just 2 weeks. All opinions advice even questions I can ask my doctor are appreciated.

I really don't have any tips except maybe your pouch is expanding slowly after your fills or maybe the balloon has a small leak. I just got my band last thursday so I can't really relate to the fills yet. I guess I would just ask if the leakage or pouch expansion is a possibility. In the mean time just try to stick with the healthy choices and exercise...Good Luck!

I do not know if it is normal or not but I have the same problem,I have just had fill three aswell.I think what happens is we get a slight swelling from the fill and it goes down.My doc said the stomach is a fickle patient and that is why we have to sneak up on the right fill amount. So I will just go back and get another slight fill hoping this one will stick.I did worry about having a leak at first but he said no leak he got back just what he put in.

Hey,

Well if it is any comfort to you, I seem to be experiencing the exact same thing. When I get a fill I will lose 6 or 8 pounds then everything comes to a halt with weight loss. I always think that I could be doing much better if I didn't cheat some but can't seem to stop. I haven't lost anything for a month now but will be getting another fill next week. Just hang in there, it happens slower for some of us but at least it is coming off!

For the first few months after surgery (I was banded in March), I had the same thing. My Dr. said it was the fat around my stomach shrinking causing the bad to get loose. The last month or so, I've teetered back and forth with being too tight and then too loose.

Hang in there, you'll find the sweet spot.

I considered my first 3 fills my "adjustment period", no pun intended. It wasn't until after my 4th fill i really started noticing weight. I'm on my 6th fill now and I haven't lost any since then and it's been 4 weeks. Sometimes it's inches, not weight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
