Calcium Chews???

Recommended Posts

I haven't tried the viactiv but I've tried the ActivCal which is GNCs brand of calcium chews. They aren't that bad. They're a little sweet for me though.

The only problem with calcium chews, according to my dietician, is that they contain Calcium Carbonate, which is not absobed as well as calcium citrate. I use Twin Labs calcium citrate with D. I chew 2 in the mornng and 2 at night. 60 wafers cost $7.67 at vitacost.com, with $4.99 shipping for any size order, so I order several to save on shipping. I paid $17.99 for it at a Healthy Options store. The Vitamin Shoppe may have it too, but the cheapest place is online.

I had bought Viactiv, but switched when the dietician told me citrate was better. I figure if I have to take it I wanted the best absorption.

I take viactiv occasionally. I have really tight restriction but they don't get stuck. They are only 20 calories for their Multivitamins and if I feel like the need for something sweet during the day, I will take them instead of my regular Vitamins. I have also used them for Calcium as well.

If you have to get your Vitamins and calcium in during the day, might as well enjoy them.

My doctor said the same thing. Take the calcium citrate rather than the Carbonate.

My doctor's office recommended the Viactiv chews. I love them. They are yummy and my nails have never grown so well! haha Plus, I only take one a day. I have become stuck on them a few times if I eat them too early in the morning, but honestly I've been stuck on Water in the morning a few times. LoL

Best of luck!

I like the chews as well. They come in a chocolate and a caramel. I like the chocolate better. It's almost like a little treat. They were recommended by my doctor and the box says to chew throughly and not swallow large chuncks. THis was I guess it absorbs better into your system. THe only bad thing is they are a little pricy. But I figure I'm saving soo much money not eating junk food, that it probably balances out in my favor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
