two weeks post surgery

Recommended Posts

I was banded September 15 and was able to enjoy my own bed that night. I loved being able to come home that day. The two weeks has been fairly easy. I have progressed through the Clear Liquids, to full, to pureed to soft. I don't have a ton of energy but feel well otherwise. I lost 8 pounds during the Protein Shake fast prior to surgery. I think I have lost an additonal 8 pounds since the surgery. I have tried not to obssess about the scales.

I have an appt in two weeks to be filled. Is that a big transition?

i think you have done really well. I am 4 days post-op and got dehydrated because i have not been taking in enough liquids. but, not today! the drs office said to drink 1 cup per hour and i feel better already. It sounds like you have done great. I can see my ankles for the first time in a long time! Keep up the good work!!!!!!

very good, keep doing what your doing. I'm not scheduled for banding until 1-2009 and you please tell me, anything a person should know that will help them get through the 1st 5 weeks, also how do you deal with wanting comfort food? thank you, best of luck to you

I feel fortunate that I haven't had a lot of cravings or desire for anything other than what my doc prescribed. Park Nicollett has a strict dietary guide to follow for the first month. My husband is very supportive and has prepared a lot of his own meals during this crucial healing/adjustment time. That helps a lot. I had crab meat for dinner tonight and it tasted wonderful. It is still hard to know when to stop, but I haven't thrown up once. It is amazing to me that I need to leave a spoonful of Tomato Soup, because I feel full and the one more spoonful might be too much. My doc said not to weigh everyday, but I find myself on the scale almost every morning. Like most veteran dieters, staying off the scale is foreign to me.

I recently had lap band surgery on Sept, 23 and was wondering, when is it ok to bend down. Since it still hurts to do so at this time.

I had my surgery done by Dr. Bacal in Michigan. I already went for my first post-op visit, and everything was fine. I was wondering if at my second post -op visit if I will get my first fill? (which is in 5 weeks).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
