My first post and question. My surgery is scheduled for Oct 24. I was told at the pre-op class to eat low carbohydrates, high Protein for two weeks prior to the surgery. On the posts I see that people talk about a liquid diet for two weeks before. Did I misunderstand? I thought the liquid diet was for after.

Many doctors give very detailed diet plans prior to surgery, but some don't. The diets vary from a total liquid diet to mixed liquids and low carb/high Protein meals. Some don't give any sort of pre-op diet plan. If you're not sure about what your doctor wants, you should call to verify or check the information that you've gotten from his/her office. It's very important to follow your doctor's recommendations, so that you have a safe surgery.

Also, welcome to LBT!

Welcome!!!

The pre-op and post-op diets vary from doctor to doctor. Most are on liquids but not all. Your dietician should have been specific enough that you do not doubt exactly what and how much you are supposed to eat. If you are not 100% sure, give them a call.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
