First Fill......I am freaked

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill (TOTALLY UNEXPECTED, I might add!!) yesterday and they used that LOVELY freezy spray...never felt a thing...

agree with above posters...felt much, much less than when I have blood taken.

GOOD LUCK! Call the doc office and ask how they do it so you can relax some!!!

Well I go tomorrow I am so excited and can not wait gain 2 1/2 lbs back from the 17 lbs I have lost. I have been eating normal.....it doesn't even feel I ever had a band inside. Except I can feel my port. I am past 8 weeks of my surgery and I feel I should have lost more weight. But I also should have been filled over a week ago. So I am not going to stress. My day starts tomorrow of weight loss again. O I am so ready and excited. Can not wait.

I am not freaked about it any more....thanks to all of you

thank you thank you

When you get a fill, does it feel tighter inside? Like after surgery, I had this really bad tightness in my chest, it doesnt feel like that, does it? Just wondering if its uncomfortable, or if you can even feel it. Thanks!

I will be curious to what the experts say on this...

I felt no tightness the day of my fill. The next day...yes, I felt some mild tightness if I was eating...drinking was no problem.

I will share (not sure if this is typical) that for lunch today I was easily able to drink 10 oz. of Soup...but the minute I sip a little too fast or do anything sorta solid...I can have a throat gurgle or literally can feel the food (very well chewed up, mind you) sliding down my throat. Anyone advise me? Normal? To feel the food...

Good luck to everyone!!! :w00t: Enjoy reading about your progress!!!

Hi everyone!

I just had my first fill this morning at around 11:00 a.m. (4 cc into a 10 cc band). I can tell you this - I was nervous. I think that is probably normal, given that none of us has every experienced anything like this before in our lives.

I do have a slight point of reference - I had a port before for chemo. But it was in my shoulder, and I knew that the belly would be more sensitive. I never felt the chemo nurses access the port in my shoulder and never had numbing.

My Dr. had me lie flat on a table and then had me do a mini-crunch. He then injected a numbing med (which I just barely felt for one second - and I'm a MAJOR needle phobe, so I wouldn't underplay this if it hurt, believe me). I kept my eyes closed because I've read here that the needles look intimidating. Smart advice!

I felt him feeling around and he told me that he was injecting the saline. He asked if I had any taste in my mouth. Nothing. I didn't even realize it was over until he told me to lie back and relax because he was done. I think it took less than two minutes from the time they wiped the site off with sterilizing solution to the time he was done.

Now, having said all that, I must say I am surprised and how much restriction I am now aware of. I can barely get down any Water. Some, in very small amounts, but I feel a good bit of pressure just above the spot between my breasts, like I need a good burp.

They told me that as long as I can swallow my own saliva it is ok. That there is some immediate swelling that can get worse about four hours after the fill (as in right about now!), but I am not bringing anything up - so far.

I was told that as long as I could swallow my own saliva and some Water that I was going to be ok. Full liquids for two days, then onto pureed food for two days (I read how many people here call them mushies), then as I feel ready I can progress to soft foods.

I'm both annoyed and excited. Annoyed because the ONE THING I didn't realize is that I wouldn't be able to eat today - and because I was being weighed I didn't have Breakfast before going to the Dr. this morning - so I'm really hungry!!! I'm so dopey - I can't believe I didn't get that from all the advice I've read in advance of today. DUH me, LOL. I'll be fine. I think that if I take it really slowly, like I did the few days after I got home from the surgery, I'll be able to get some Soup into me tonight.

Oh, and the spot where the needle went in is a bit sore. I think that is probably normal as well. I didn't have any pain when he touched my belly to see how I was healing, not even when he was feeling around the port area to be sure he could locate the best spot. But I do feel it now - like I'm a little bruised. I'm hoping that only lasts a day, and that in time it won't even feel like this. I'm only seven weeks out, and still do feel some bruising from the surgery now and then...

Thanks to everyone. I'm hoping I continue to respond normally to this and get to eat again without needing an unfill. Then I hope to really be able to put up weight LOSS on my ticker, instead of nothing or a pound or two up, as it has done the last two weeks.

Good luck, and especially to you Lisafitz! Congrats on your fills, all of you. This is some wild ride, I must say.

I just had my 1st fill last Tuesday and it was not painful at all. In fact I did not feel anything!!! I was a bit worried also after reading some of the horror stories here, but there really was nothing to it. I have to confess that my port was difficult to find but I still did not feel anything and they did not use anything in that area to numb it! So quit worring!

Had my fill on friday it was so cool I got to watch everything. I had ultra sound done with the nasty drink. lol

I also watched it. I laid done first he numbed me....then I had to stand up with the needle in me (Pulp Fiction moment) and I drank the stuff and watched it go down and get stuck, so he let some out and it went right down....I wanted it a little tighter so he put a tiny tiny more and then I drank and it went down slow and that was that. No pain at all. But I have to take kitten bites and really chew chew chew....getting food stuck does not feel very good. I am learning....I am a fast eater so this is a learning thing for me. But very happy...takes me forever to eat but that's ok....got sick once so far took to big of a bite

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
