Trepidatiously Curious

Recommended Posts

Hi! My name is Eileen and my husband Mat and I are starting to investigate the LapBand System. I am 5'10", weigh around 283 and am pre-diabetic. My husband is 6'3", weighs around 380 and is asthmatic. Our insurance says it covers one bariatric surgery per person per lifetime. So I guess our bases are covered there (have to call to double check, of course).

We're a little nervous about how this will completely change our lifestyle. At the same time, we're really excited about how this will completely change our lifestyle!

I'm going to call around over the next few weeks and find out as much information as I can. It looks like our insurance will let us see doctors up in Salt Lake City, Utah (St. Mark's) which is about an hour away from where we live (Provo area).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to possibly becoming a "Bandster" and perhaps avoiding diabetes (and lung cancer since I have to quit smoking!) and to have my husband and me around for a long time to come for our children (and ourselves!)

Welcome to this amazing site!!!!

Read a lot of postings, look around the site, get familiarized with the pros and cons. Sit down and decide if this is really for you. I did my homework and getting the lap band was the best decision I could have made for myself. You are going to get a lot of opinions from friends and family and you really have to listen to yourself. There have been a lot of success stories on here. I am amazed at how much better I feel.

Welcome again Eileen, take care caminco

Welcome Eileen!

You've come to the right place to start out. Do your homework, find out everything you could possibly know about the band, and how it will effect your life and your habits. Talk to people who've been banded a while, read up as much of this site as you can, and figure out all the questions you want to ask your prospective surgeon. There's nothing worse than going ahead with something if you don't know what you're getting into!

Above all, good luck with your decision. It's not one to be taken lightly. However, if you follow the rules and use the band as a tool, you can change your life for the better!

Best wishes,

Annie.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
