Recommended Posts

I am being banded 10/24 in KY. Does anyone know what has been said in regards to tanning beds after being banded? Kathy:confused:

There is nothing wrong with using a tanning bed after being banded. It is true though that you should wait awhile to be sure the scars are healed completely. No matter what though the tanning in that area will still show funny a bit. As long as I don't have tan lines I am good to go.

The band istelf can not be affected since it is inside you.

I put an SPF 45 sun screen on my scars when I tan because I heard that the new skin can brown permanently. I am not sure how true that is, but I am not taking the chance.

I read that if the new scars are still in the "red stage" they can brown permanently and putting a cloth or sun screen on it can still let UV rays in, it said to use a peice of black electricians tape over the scars while tanning.

My Dr. says wait 8 weeks, I got banded in Hazard Kentucky 3-13-09 I really don't know why, I am going to cover the belly up and lay anyway as long as it dosen't bother the band or port.:)

As everyone above stated the scars if still red will tan different than the surrounding skin and cause them to stand out if you plan to xpose your tummy. I have also read that during the scar healing time UV rays can permanently discolor the scar tissue making it hard to hide them in the future. So the best recommendation is to protect the scar tissue from the UV rays.....

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
