I dont get the mushie stage

Recommended Posts

OK.... I need some opinions! lol

For the first 11 days I stayed on liquids. Then for 2 days mushie foods and then I just skipped to soft foods, mainly becuz my blender sucks and I had to chew the food anyhow. So I went ahead and tried soft foods and chew until its liquid in my mouth. Yes liquid! lol.. so I really honestly dont get the mushie stage.. if you chew it until its liquid, isnt it still the same thing?

The biggest thing is trying to figure out what is giving me horrible gas? lol, I cant seem to pin point which foods. I eat, scrambled eggs, yogurt, pudding, Soup, cottage cheese, coffee, carnation sugar free Breakfast drink, 1%milk and for the last few days bad cramping gas. grrrr What the heck is causing this gas?

I eat extremely slow, no liquids 30mins after I eat. I eat small bites. Anyone experience this?

I'm not banded yet BUT from what I've read on this site - you might be lactose intolerant. From what you've described in your diet, you're eating a lot of dairy products. Just a thought.

I'd agree with Carolina. You're eating a lot of dairy and no mention of any vegetables at all. Add in some soft-cooked vegetables like sweet potato, squash, zucchini, etc, puree them up for no lumps and see if that helps. I think the mushie/soft food transition is mostly preventative. Even though you are chewing to "mushy/liquid", there's always the chance that you will miss a small lump, especially if you are eating "harder" foods like fresh vegetables or meat. At this point in your healing, a bigger than normal lump might get stuck, causing you to PB, etc. The last thing you want is to be upchucking before all the stitches have healed. Also, any lumps that slip through, regardless of if they get stuck or not, will require more vigorous stomach churning to digest, which will also pull at the stitches before they've healed.

Sure, you might be really careful all the time and never miss a lump; sure, everyone is different and some will be more sensitive to lumps than others, so you might get away with swallowing some without PBing; however, when what you eat has been blended/pureed to mush, you eliminate the possibility altogether. This is much safer and I think it is the main reason why doctors recommend it. Why take the chance? It's like saying why bother with a seatbelt when I know I'm going to drive really really carefully each time.

Well you do have a point. I do chew my foods well, and I feel pretty healed. But I will lay off the dairy and see what happens. I been avoiding difficult foods, like meat and of course no veggies and fruits. So I am trying to figure out how to get Protein. I dont think I am lactose intolerant, but it could be why I do have a lot of gas.. lol Its hard cause a lot of the good food is lol.. dairy! lol At least what I like. But it does make sinse as to all the aweful gas. I will be grocey shopping tomorrow I will get some non dairy stuff to eat lol! I will do that for a few days and see if I see a change! Thanks Guys! :bolt:

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
