Flying after a "fill"

Recommended Posts

I fly to get all of my fills... I live in Nevada and fly to San Diego to get my fills done. I have never noticed any difference from the flights, but I live in a high elevation area (5,000+). However, I did notice that when I went on vacation for 2 weeks at sea level that I had less restriction.

Personally, I always tighten up for a day or three when I have to fly in a jetliner. My doc swears that the travel shouldn't affect it, but that has been a consistent reaction for over a year now.

I avoid all foods and drinks before and during a flight.

I flew within 36 hours of being banded and was fine. I also flew within 24 hours of my last fill and was perfectly fine. My restriction was at the expected level after the flight and was consistent for weeks.

I'll be flying for the first time after being banded in 3 weeks. I was told not to eat or drink on the flight so as to avoid complications.

You can fly right after - I flew to NY from Dallas 4 days later - doctor said no big deal at all. Don't worry about it - nothing changes - you do generally get dehydrated from flying but you won't notice anything.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
