How soon can you eat after a fill?

Recommended Posts

I was told to wait 2 days and stay on liquids for 2 days. Unfortunately I had used all my Protein drinks up, and got done at the doctor fairly late last night (6 pm) and couldn't spend the time crossing town and fighting traffic to get to the Vitamin Shoppe.

So I went ALL DAY with only a bottle of propel and some chicken broth... I finally got to the Vitamin Shoppe, got my drinks and headed home. Well, don't you know, I stopped at Taco Bell and got some Beans. I ate about half the container, which is about 80 calories. Nothing hurts and I feel fine but I hate that I am always trying to take short cuts!

Has anyone's doctor given the direction that they can eat after a fill, even mushie foods? I am hoping I didn't damage anything!!!!!

I just had my first fill today and I was told to stay on liquids for the rest of today and then mushies tomorrow...each doctor is different, but I would TRY to do what they tell you to. I assume there is a reason for it, although you are probably fine :-)

I eat immediately after my fill. I fly in for my fills so I immediately go to the hospital cafeteria and eat the chunkiest Soup they have. I make sure I can get it down before I get on the plane and fly home.

I've never had any instructions to do liquids or mushies after a fill, personally, I've had a fill and then gone out for lunch an hour later, of course, I ate lightly and carefully, but there's really no risk to your band as such, its more to let everything settle and calm down in case you Pb. I virtually never PB and am quite confident about how I "feel" after the first mouthful or two, so although I'd choose an easy food, I dont actually do liquids etc.

I certainly wouldnt go all day without eating. Why on earth would you just not have some yogurt or milk, or thicker Soup?

My doc says "be very careful for the next 2 days", but doesn't insist on liquids or mushies. For the first 3 fills, I went back to mushies for the rest of the day, then fine the next day. For fill 4, I did liquids for the rest of the day, mushies on day 2 and then back to normal. On the last fill, I PB'd on thick Soups that afternoon, was really ill all night, spent the next day on clears and never managed to get past thick liquids for the next 10 days, till I had half the fill removed.

I think the injunction is mostly to make sure you are REALLY careful after a fill, as you never quite know what the restriction is going to be until you try it. I was shocked at PB'ing on the same Soups that I had used on in my post-op phase without problem.

My doctor says mushies for the rest of the day and then see how it goes if I have trouble with solids the next day do soft foods for a few days before try again but I never have any trouble.

My doctor said liquids for 2 days, then mushies for a day then eat regular day 4. I did liquids for 1 day and mushies for 2 and eat more solid food on the day 4. I can feel some restriction and am eating very carefully smaller amounts then previously.

lol...that made me laugh. I dig it!

I had my first fill yesterday, was supposed to be on clears for 2 days and then mushies. I guess I was also supposed to be on clears for 2 days prior, but I was on full liquids. I didnt know, but when the doc and I were talking yesterday I said...oops, I have been on creamy Soups...he said that's fine.

ANYWHOOO, I ate a small Wendys chili today in like 5 minutes flat. Didnt feel any different to me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
