Loss of Excitement

Recommended Posts

I have been on an exciting rollercoaster for almost 9 months. Going for all of the meetings, getting insurance approval, losing the required amount, liquid diet prior, waiting for surgery, having surgery, liquid post diet, mushy phase, soft food phase and starting back working out.

Well - now here I am 8 weeks after surgery and I feel like I have lost some of the excitement. Now it is just the hard work of losing the weight. I still have not needed a fill yet as I am losing a pretty good rate.

I am one of those people who needs steps to each goal. That is why I really did not have a problem waiting those 8 months to have the surgery, there was something that I had to do each month. This only had to happen once so I did not get that "bored" feeling.

I am extremely happy I did this, but I think I am at that bored stage. Yes, I work out with a trainer and am eating well but I have lost some of the excitement. I work out with the trainer on Mondays (it is a circuit training class so there is no time to think, which I love), Tuesday Wii Fit, Wednesday Elliptical, Thursday Wii Fit, Friday - rest, Saturday - Total Body Conditioning Class, Sunday - rest.

Anyone else? Any suggestions on how to get out of this stupid funk??

Hi Gilta -

I think we all get in and out of funks... I am at a stand still with weight loss this week but get my first fill this afternoon. I am looking forward to my fill and the next stage of the journey. Keep positive, stay around the people who support you the most , keep exercising and focus on your next goal.

Remember... It's only been 2 months... We all are just starting the journey and adjusting to complete life style changes. Of course we will get into funks, you are not alone. My difficulty has been giving up the Pasta, pizza, beer & wine. I am tempted to these foods because I know I can tolerate them. I have kept disciplined because I am determined to lose this weight forever.

I also appreciate your advice to give away my bigger clothes so I have more

discipline to keep the weight off.

Keep positive.

Gary

Tess/Gary,

Thanks for the advice.

I am planning on giving away a bunch of clothes this weekend, so maybe my closet being empty will help! I am trying very hard not to buy too many clothes in my current size as I hope to be out of it soon.

I am keeping track of my measurments, but only once every month. For me it is hard to see much of a difference each week. I will give a try with pictures and rewards and see if that helps.

I guess I should just be glad that I am doing well!!!

Gilta,

Hang in there. I'm only 4 1/2 weeks out so I'm not bored yet. LOL! It has been a rollercoaster! All the hurry up and wait, then all of a sudden, it's done and you're back to your normal life like nothing has changed.

Is there a hobby you like to do? Maybe just changing your focus for awhile might help. I don't know! :smile2:

You're doing great! Keep up the good work!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
