stuffed animal in recovery room

Recommended Posts

I hear some patients get a stuffed bear in the recovery room after the surgery from a nurse. Is that True?

If so that's very sweet.

Awww, lol. I am thinking that probably varies by hospital, and if you stay overnight, right?

I received a Teddy Bear from Cleveland Clinic. It was a called a "cough teddy bear" it was very hard, so when I needed to cough I would squeeze the teddy bear and it helped the pain. The nurse wouldn't let me get discharged until I had a productive cough.

I got one too. Used it for the coughing exercise (trust me, it helps a lot) and to wedge against my left side while I slept for the first month so I wouldn't roll over on my port incision.

Alta Bates Hospital's bariatric unit in Okland gives out stuffed teddy bears so when you cough it does not hurt as much.:smile2:

I got a koala bear in the recovery room from dr Tersigni, To cough and stuff. However I found a pillow worked much better lol. I like the koala however as a reminder that im on this great journey and the great staff that helped me get here :wink2:

I didn't, but I got the best Jello. Yum yum yum. :-) lol

I also got a free hair brush, tooth brush, cathader, nose canula, and morphine.

I dont know why but for some reason I had the best vegetable broth there lol

Must just have been the drugs they had me on.

I was just happy they knocked me out for the surgery. And hours after I woke up, the TV had a good channel so I watched a horror flick in my room.:bolt:

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
