Hair Loss After 2nd Fill

Recommended Posts

I had my second fill on Sept. 16 and it seems since then I have been having some Hair loss. I noticed this the day after I had the fill. When I wash my hair in the morning, seems like I have a lot of hair on my hands. I am getting a little concerned. I'm wondering if this is from the fill or just coincidental? Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm sorry, but this is only the beginning!!!! I've been banded for 5 months, and loosing hair!! Make sure you take your Protein and take Biotin Vitamin. It helps a little, but will not stop the Hair loss. I've also went to see a dermatologist, and she said it's because of your decrease in calorie intake, and rapid weight loss. I hope it ends soon!!! Good Luck to you!

It wasn't connected to your fill. It takes about three months for hair loss to happen and approx three months for Hair loss to resolve itself once you find and correct the cause.

If we go back three months, we see that you probably started your pre-op diet almost exactly three months ago and your surgery was right around that time. So your connection is very likely to be there. Our bodies will shut down taking care of the unnecessary things when it detects trauma. hair is not necessary for survival so that is one of the first things to go. It could have been that you were not getting enough Protein starting with your pre-op diet. Make sure you are getting 60 or more grams of Protein a day. Lack of B Vitamins and other nutrients can be the cause too. Make sure you are taking a good quality daily Vitamin every day you should also take a Calcium supplement with Vitamin D added. If you are positive that you were not lacking in those areas in the past three months then it could have simply been the surgery itself that caused your body to go into a panic and in that case, the problem will resolve itself.

I had hair loss start a little over 1 month ago. I upped my protein to 100+ grams a day and started taking Biotin. The hair loss has slowed quite a bit and according to my research and my surgeon, it should resolve itself very soon.

I agree with her:thumbup: Your body is just catching up to adjustments made in previous months, one fill won't cause it. I am also suffering from mild hairloss so I feel your pain. It does get better as long as you are eating healthy.

My doctors tell me the weight loss is probably what triggers the Hair loss, but they don't offer and suggestions. My sister, who is a hairdresser, advised me to take folic acid. I have taken two folic acid tablets per day for the last couple of months and it seems to help.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
