Type II Diabetes Management after surgery

Recommended Posts

I have a question for those of you who check your BGs regularly. I am new to this issue (diagnosed with pre-diabetes AFTER my lap band) and am planning to check regularly to make sure that things are moving in the right direction. My 2 hour BGs are rather high (160 after lunch today, 195 after dinner!). I am wondering if having the band delays the BG peak due to delayed digestion of our food. Has anyone else noticed anything like that?

You know, I hadn't given that a thought. That makes a lot of sense though. You might want to check your surgeon to know for sure, but that sounds like a real possibility.

I am actually on here reading everyone's entries on behalf of my husband. My husband had Lap Band 09/25/2008. He lost 22 lbs. on the pre-op diet and has lost another 19 lbs. after surgery. Pre-surgery he was on two types of Insulin, 4 glucophage pills and 1 amaryl a day. With that and his not-so-great diet, his sugar levels were never really great. Post-op, while on the liquid diet, his sugar readings were in the 80s and 90s...I cannot tell you how excited we were. He stopped taking all meds. Now, after a few days on the "creamy foods" diet, his readings are back up...anywhere from 130-something to 180-something. He decided to start back on the glucophage and the amaryl this morning. I noticed his lunch time sugar reading was the same as this AM and assume it will take some time for the meds to "reactiviate" in his body. I am just curious what others have experienced...please, please, please tell me that he WILL eventually get off his meds...this is our main goal in this. We did self-pay Lap Band we wanted it so bad for him. So...who has some great words of encouragement for us?!?!? :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
