Port is leaking; Questions about replacement and who covers the cost

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just found out that my port is leaking, although I have suspected it for some time. I was hoping to hear from those of you who have had your port replaced, or know someone who did. What was the replacement like? I was told I can choose to be awake or asleep. How was your recovery compared to the initial surgery? Did you have lifting restrictions? Did the manufacturer cover the cost since the port was faulty? Did anyone choose to sue the manufacturer? Thank you for any information.

Heather

This is the first time i have ever heard of this. i know I am not the answer you are looking for but you'd think the makers of the band would have to pay since that is a product malfunction. if they try to stick you with outragous bills, call an attorney.

Adnd you'd also think, that if they are just replacing the port, you should have a quicker healing process than having the whole band put in. Also, if they are giving you the option of being asleep or awake, that it can't be that bad or they would make you go to sleep.

Hope that hels ease your mind a little.

The person that should not be paying a dime is you. If port was defective then the manufacturer should pay, if the surgeon did something that damaged the port then he/she should pay, either way they need to fight it out, not you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
