I'm one of those people that have been thinking about this for a year. I've attended the inservices, have my insurance in line for payment but I just can't make that appointment with the surgeon. I keep thinking that I can do this on my own, but that's not happening. I am a diabetic (type II) I had gestational took insulin now 15 years later I'm back on insulin, Lantus. Looking forward to chatting in the future.

I've got news for you... you are going to do it on your own. You don't just get a band and wah-la you're thin... it doesn't work that way. It helps you to feel full quicker so you don't eat as much. You still have to follow the rules, the plan etc. There are many overweight people still out there with a band that don't follow through. I've met some. They eat junk food, sweets etc. on a regular basis. They already stretched their pouch.

I had the same thought as well though, you almost feel like a failure that you aren't doing this yourself, but the truth is you haven't done it.

You are in your 40's like me and it doesn't get any easier. My doctor told me the average woman gains 10 pounds a year after 30. Don't delay getting the band because your mind is convinced otherwise. Let the facts speak for themselves.

How many more years do you want to wait, and how many more pounds will you gain trying, how much money will you spend on diet products to help you lose?

My father was overweight, had high blood pressure and had a heart attack at the age of 47 and died. I am overweight and have high blood pressure. I am also 47. I got the lapband because I don't want to have a heart attack like my dad. How much time are you willing to cut your life short because of your stubbornness and pride?

If you have doubts because the surgery doesn't seem right for you, it's one thing, but because you think you can do it yourself... my question for you is... then why haven't you? When I asked myself that question, I had all kinds of excuses, but no real answers. Do you?

Sorry if I seem harsh... I don't mean to be... I just know how I felt, I've lost 20 pounds so far and feel in control of my life... finally.

Maybe she shouldn't have had all her fill removed. Part of it may have been fine. The band does not do all of the work for you, have to make the right choices in your new diet, exercise, etc.

Themis,

Wow thanks for that perspective. I've never thought of it that way. Just because you get the band doesn't mean that the weight just falls off, it takes a lot of work and self control. I really want to get off my meds and be healthy and not have to sleep with that darn ole sleep apnea machine. I love the way it makes me fall asleep and sleep restfully, I just hate the looks of it on me.

Anyway, thank you and I wish you much success.

No problem! Glad I could help. I do recommend finding some one who used the same doctor as you as a band buddy (that is successful). You'll have a lot of questions and they can help you and knowing they used the same dr. will ease a lot of your questions and concerns, since everyone is different. I did a search on here to find my band buddy, if you can't find one here, check with your doctor to see if they can invite you to meet some of their successful patients.

Good luck in your journey!

it is so true that we will do all the work and the band is just a tool. For me personally knowing I was going to get the band, changed my thinking entirely. I lost 13 pounds on liquid diet all by myself without the band the week before surgery. and have lost a total of 22 pounds. At this point, its all my decisions on what im eating that is affecting my weight and that will continue to be a factor even when i get my first fill. It is all us :crying: Amazing to think but for me its like I have this sheer determination now knowing if i do this right, I can lose the weight, and keep it off!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
