1 week post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi! My name is Kim. I was banded on 9/17 and am doing fairly well although I must admit that I am still hungry at times. I have lost 9 lbs so far and am thrilled. My big problem is that I have 2 small boys, ages 5 and 2, that I have to cook for and who beg foe McDonald's on a daily basis. I am finding hard to stick to my "full liquid Diet" while trying to cook a "regular" dinner for my husband and children. Any suggestions?:girl_hug:

I know it might be to much to ask for but have your husband cook. When I had my surgery I explained to my husband the seriounsess of me getting the band and how this was my last option to loose weight. I made sure he cooked for the kids and himself, if he didn't want to cook then the ate out. I stayed in my room most of the time especially during meal time for the 1st week.

You need to take care of yourself and if your spouse supports you in this he will make the sacrafice and feed the family.

hi Kim! I as well am very hungry and am craving so many things, but haven't given in. One, the money i spent on the surgery is not going to waste and two, I know the only way to make this really work is follow the outlined plan. Somethings I have done to help with the hunger, is to blend foods such as chili, refried beans( in small amounts ) and not often. I do my protien drink a day, then drink throughout. doing 3 0z of protien an hour. i am starving let me tell you, but I know if i jump ahead of doctors orders, it could be detrimental to my progress and lapband. My suggestions would be not to go to mcdonalds if you feel like you will give in. I had people offering me donuts at work today and im like heck no!! but i do understand its a difficult road and i dont get filled until 10/29!!! my surgery was on 09/15, i hate feeling hungry all the time too. a blender is my best friend. yogurt really does the trick too :)

I am three days out and am havign to make myself eat.

I get SO full on 1 oz....

For instance I had

1oz cream of wheat this mornign and was stuffed.

then I sipped my water...

Then ahd a sugar free popsicle..which I only had half..

Then...for lunch..

I had 1oz chicken puree baby food with maybe 1oz baby carrots mixed with it. I probably only ate half of it..meaning 1 oz.

Then I sipped my Water after 30 minutes of eating.

Then for dinner I guess..I had 1oz of puree cottage cheese and puree pears. ....I probably only ate 1 oz of that. Again very full.

So now Im sipping Propel and still feel FULL. Is this normal?

Is it normal to have to make myself eat?

I just feel like IM doin something wrong.

I do feel like I have to belch some..kinda like indegestion..but then I dont. ITs werid.

Dh has eating Arby, McDonalds and Skyline in front of me and it actually made me sick to the stomach. lol

I jsut wonder if Im getting enough though.

I was banded on 9-12. I have many days that I am starving! I have a 10 y/o, 6 y/o and 4 y/o. All girls. I still cook for them and my husband. My husband looks at me funny at times and says I'm staring at him eat. I've told him more than once that I just want to lick his food. He laughs. He knows it's hard and appreciates what I go through to make dinner. He is getting a little tired of frozen meals though. It's easier for me than cooking and smelling the food for hours. I'm anxious for Saturday. I get eggs, cheese, oatmeal..every week I look forward and think about what I can eat next time! It's hard, but we can do this.

If it bothers you that much, don't buy McDonalds for the kids... It isn't any better for them, than it is for you. But I know kids don't care. I would also stay in my room while my kids ate in the other room. If you cook though, have your Soup or whatever you are eating while they eat dinner. Make something the kids like that you don't... in my case, kids love mac-n-cheese, I don't... they're happy and I'm happy.

It's normal to be more hungry as you are healing. Protein Drinks (I like the Atkins) help also.

As for Iatetheskinnyme, most of us had liquids for two weeks, so you're way ahead of the game. You're still healing so it's yes it's normal that you get full so fast. Try liquids only for 2 weeks and you'll understand the hunger pangs that us 2 week liquid people felt! LOL!

I still love the cream of wheat!

I had surgery on 9/18 doing great so far. Something I did this past week was make homemade chicken noodle Soup. I had chicken broth from the soup, and my family had chicken soup stew (because I ate most of the broth) Worked for both meals, SO MUCH BETTER than the can stuff. I plan on making Beef vegetable soup with extra broth and having it next. There are ways we can still take care of the family and take care of us too. Good luck all you September Bandsters, we are on our way to new healthy us'.

i was the same way with eating only 1 oz and feeling stuffed for the first days after surgery. You arent doing anything wrong your just healing :crying: has time progresses you will get more hungry trust me :D I have two more weeks of liquids to go and I know I will make it but geez, its so hard. lol. Im starving at work all the time, According to my coordinator I can eat anything like yogurt or thinner at this time. There is no mushie stage, goes straight to liquids to solids. GNC has a great whey protien vanilla mix i bought. Im drinking some right now and tastes much better than a protien shake. it has 20 grams of protien per scoop. Dont worry, your fine right now eating 1 oz at a time no worries :D

I was banded 9/22, so i am 5 days post op and found that sipping campbells creamy Tomato Soup really helps the hunger when i am inbetween Protein Shakes. I have taken the mind set that this phase shall pass and then i'll be better. My husband took off too so he could cook for the boys(8,13) and that was a huge help. We are all in this together and just remember you are strong and can do this!! Keep up the good work!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
