Recommended Posts

Hi there, my name is Stace and I really want to get the surgery done but I need LOTS of info as I am just finding out about this band that will help me loose lots of weight. I am in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and if anyone knows where I can find a Dr. here that will do this surgery and the cost etc.....I would greatly appreciate any info provided.....thanks so much! :girl_hug: I have struggled with my weight since I had my first child (9 years ago) I put on 75 lbs with him....I was 110lbs when I got pregnant with him, the marriage was over and I was very depressed....so I ate and ate and ate........now I am re-married for 6 years now and have 2 more children....I did watch what I ate with my other 2 pregnancies, but did put on more weight and lost after I had them but basically I have just maintained my weight....anyways, I am excited to be here and I hope to get lots of infomation and make some new friends as well........hope to hear from you.

Hi Stace. Welcome!! You are going to love this site. Keep reading and asking questions. There are lots of nice people on here who are always willing to help. I can't help you find a doctor, but if you have any questions, let me know. I just got my band Friday, so I'm certainly not an expert, but I might be able to help you out. Good luck!!! Becky

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
