hi i'm new and nervous

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is jo, and i'm awaiting my op at the end of oct 08 in brussels.

In 1998 I was diagnosed with Crohns Disease and at the time was very poorly, but fortunately I have not had any symptoms since and have not taken any medication for a number of years and feel well.

This morning I was reading a leaflet about gastric bands and it specifically stated that anyone with Crohns should not be fiited with a band. I have informed the clinic about my condition and they say its ok but i,m nervous now instead of being very excited. what should I do? :rolleyes2:

Welcome!

Just make sure you talk with your surgeon and get educated on all of the complications. I can see why bypass would not be a choice for you, but lapband..I don't know. Since Crohn's can affect the entire digestive system, it may be contraindicated.

Hi! Just wanted to welcome you. I don't know anything about crohns, but if your worried do some research on line and get a second opinion. Good luck

There are several people here that have crohn's and have been banded. Type in "crohn's" in the search box and you should be able to find the threads.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
