YIKES! First of all, eating junk will make you gain weight - so you're on the right track there.

However, eating very little will also make you gain weight - in a roundabout sort of way.

When you severely restrict calories, i.e. eating less than 800 calories a day, your body goes into starvation mode. When that happens, any and everything you put into your mouth is stored as fat, because your body thinks that it's starving and that it needs to preserve as much as possible.

The best way to balance this is to eat between 800 and 1200 calories per day. But vary it a little. Eat 800 cals one day, 1200 cals the next, 1000 cals the next, etc. Constantly change it up so that your body can't adjust and you will maximize your weightloss results. The more small meals you eat in a day, the better your metabolism gets and the faster you can burn calories and lose the weight. Eating once a day slows down your metabolism, which in turn slows the weight loss.

It's all a vicious cycle, I tell ya :rolleyes2:

Please please please, don't starve yourself. I promise you, any extra weight you lose as a result of not eating will eventually come back - as soon as you get back to a normal eating schedule.

Anytime you don't eat for like more than 8 hours, your body goes into starvation mode. It will hold on to anything and everything you put in your system. It also slows down your matabalism.

Jaime is soo correct. Its like the people who do the Optifast or whatever. Every single person I know puts the weight back on and than some as soon as they start eating again.

just make good choices. You should know its bad for you by now.

Good luck!

One of the reasons we all have problems regaining weight after a loss is the damage we have done to our metabolisms. We diet thinking we're doing ourselves a favor by starving, when in reality we have done just the opposite. We slowed it down and set ourselves up for gain. You'll have to jump start your metabolism again, and that will require several small meals a day, and consistant and regular exercise, and changing up the type of exercise. Don't sabatoge all your efforts. Be consistant. Your body will thank you. Starving yourself will also set you up for muscle loss, Hair loss and a variety of other problems.

jmegirl said it all. :girl_hug:

I agree 110%. You need to eat. If you don't get enough Protein and Vitamins in, you are much more likely to be weak, lethargic and suffer from hairloss down the road. The goal is good health more than to be skinny. Plus . . . how can you get your exercise in if you eat too little and have no energy.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
