I feel like a crack addict.... <caffeine>

Recommended Posts

I'm trying SO hard to quit caffeine. I haven't had any since Sunday evening. I don't know if I can do it. Quitting smoking was easier than this! I am SO FRIGGIN TIRED I can't stand it. I did the whole weaning thing for like 2 weeks.

I have too much stuff to do to be this tired!! I quit smoking, I quit caffiene, I'm quitting eating crap food, but I don't know if I can keep this caffiene quitting thing up. My daughters birthday party is in less than 2 weeks and I have a TON of stuff to do to prepare... but I can't get anything done because all I want to do is go to bed!

WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO?!?!? I don't think I can do this right now. The psych said I needed to quit ONE MONTH before surgery. Is the doc going to test me for caffeine?! So many docs don't make you quit. My docs reasoning is because it's an appetite stimulant. The mayo clinic website says it may act as an appetite suppressant.

Help....

NO! They don't test you for caffeine! hahah. I too quit the caffeine after my surgery,,,,,,,,,for 24 hours. I couldn't stand myself. Caffeine can irritate the stomach, that is why they want you to quit. If it hasn't bothered you before, it probably won't now. I still do my morning cup, and typically 1 more after dinner in the evening. Without it, my family and friends with probably have to shoot me. Enjoy in moderation.

I quit caffeine for 7 weeks. I just started having one cup of coffee in the morning, what a treat. I feel better with just one. The doctor said I am healed enough to tolerate it. It gets me going in the AM. No caffeine at all during the day or evening.

I just missed my morning cup of Joe LOL

I quit caffeine 4 months ago, and I feel great! To get my energy level up, a few minutes of brisk excersise does the trick, plus burns some calories. Isn't the reason we are doing lapbands is to change our lives and become healthier? Keep up the good work and hang there. You'll do great! :rolleyes2:

I quit caffeine on day-one of my pre-op diet and I had my last cigarette the night before surgery so within two weeks time, I had lost all of my vices (carbs was another--haven't had any white carbs in four months). And my loved ones lived to tell about it! :rolleyes2:

Really, It was hell at the time but I do feel fantastic now. With the caffeine it took four days of headaches, grumpiness and fatigue and a full week of cravings. I am allowed caffeine now but I am free of it and wish to stay that way.

I love coffee, want coffee, and need coffee. I quit for my pre-op diet and then my doctor told me I could have it. I just have a cup in the morning and on a rough morning... maybe 2. I also drink Lipton tea. I don't think giving up everything you like is what this is all about ( eating healthy of course). Moderation and Portion Control are very important, but we do have to eat like this for the rest of our lives. Of course you should follow your doctor's instructions, but maybe you will be able to have a cup down the road. Good luck to you. I know exactly what you are feeling!! Becky

I couldn't give up coffee, but did dilute the caffeine level. I'll by 2 parts Decaf to one part caffeinated and mix them together. 3 full cups of coffee, one third of the buzz.

i had surgery 6/16/08 and have lost 45 pounds. started at 245. I couldn't quit caffeine. I drink coffee every morning and I do fine. The nutritionist says it would spike your hunger, but it does the opposite for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
