dwrd73 0 Posted September 24, 2008 This past weekend I discovered Podrunner Intervals on itunes. It's a series of podcasts that contians non-stop music to run to. There is a nine week program to train to run a 5K. It starts by walking for 90 seconds and then running for 60 seconds. Each week the amount of run time increases and the amount of walking decreases until you can run a 5k. The music changes as you workout. It gets faster when you are running and slows down during the walks. It's somewhat similar to the "Coach to 5K" program but it's to music to keep you motivated. Plus you do not need to keep looking at your watch to make your are keeping up with the correct run and walk times. The music tells you when to transition from walking to running and back to walking. I started week one yesterday. It was great! The music kept me moving. I'm planning on completing the nine week 5k program. The DJ suggests to complete each week's workout three times before moving on the next week. However, I am not going to move to the next week until I'm sure I am able to. I want to take it easy to make sure I don't injure myself. So, it may take me more then the nine weeks. Anyone care to join me? I'm not looking for a competition. I just thought we could encourage each other as we move through each training week. For the more experienced runners there is a program to build up to an 8k or a 10K. Plus there is a non interval podrunner for the really experienced runner. Check out his website or go to itunes and look up podrunner. It's free!! http://www.djsteveboy.com/mixes.html
thatDEgirl 1 Posted September 24, 2008 I use Robert Ullrey's Couch to 5K podcast which is basically the same thing. I ran a 5K last December but then quit running, so I recently started the program back up.

raedelicious 0 Posted September 24, 2008 I just started the couch to 5K on 9/15. I am amazed that I can actually do it so far...I know it will get harder, so I will keep looking at the posts to this thread for motivation. Thanks for the site info. Also today at work they are starting the biggest loser. If you participate, you throw in $25. We start on October 3rd, our first weigh in. We will have weekly Friday weigh ins. The last on Dec 19th. The winner (biggest loser) wins 70% of the pot, 2nd place gets 20%, and 3rd gets 10%. So I am gonna go for it. I am half way home and I am gonna run the rest of the way! dwrd73 0 Posted September 28, 2008 I use Robert Ullrey's Couch to 5K podcast which is basically the same thing. I am going to have to check this out. I saw the Couch to 5K program online. It's similar to another program I did years ago to but what I didn't like was constantly having to look at my watch to see if it was time to run or walk. I love the podrunner intervals because the music tell me when to change between running and walking. I just put on my ear buds and start moving. But I will check it out, however, I like the podrunner so much I don't think I will switch. I am on week 9 of this program and let me tell you, it is WONDERFUL! I am running my first 5k on Oct 5th! Good luck to all of you. Congratulations!!! I take it you will be doing the week ten graduation run next week. I'm glad to hear there are others out there that like the program. Actually I believe Podrunners Intervals is in the top 20 music podcasts downloaded from itunes. So there are lots of us. Good luck on your first 5K on Oct. 5th. I just finished my third workout on week 1. I think I am going to do one more workout on week one before I start week 2. Anyone one else going to join us??? shaversd 0 Posted September 30, 2008 Can someone post the website for the Couch to 5K program. My daughters and I are thinking seriously about signing up for the Prevention.com walk in Dallas on December 14th. This is just the motivation I need to get busy and exercise. Thanks!
