lap band after gastric bypass????

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric bypass in 2001 and I was 490 pounds. I now weight 300 pounds and am having a tough time breaking the barrier. I was told there is a redo on the surgery, but can I have lap band after gastric bypass. Does anyone know?

I have heard it is quite common for Gastric Bypass patients to have lapband afterwards.

Good luck to you!

Thank you for your reply. I hope that I can find a Doctor to proform this. I had my surgery done at Mills Peninsula Hospital by Doctor Albert Wetter in Burlingame, CA I went back to ask him about the band and he said he would not do. So know I am trying to find someone in his office that does this. Otherwise I have to have a redo called a stomacflyx.

It is so frustrating having to jump through so many hoops to get this done, but I guess it is necessary.

Have a great evening

Mary

Let your fingers do the walking - call around to all the offices and ask the question --they can transfer your records I believe -- or at least I would hope!

Good luck!

I have a family friend who has since stretched out her gastric bypass pouch and is now going to have lapband over that. I'm happy for her. I hope you can find someone in your area to do it. Congrats on the weight you have lost. Don't stop yet!

The day I had my surgery, there was also a bypass patient that was having a band placed. It's common.

I am new here for the same reason. I had a Gastric Bypass 12 years ago. I am looking into having the lap band now. I know that Casco Bay Surgery in Portland, Maine has a doctor that does it. I haven't had my appointment with him yet. If you called there they might know of a surgeon in your area. I was hoping to talk to others that have had lap band surgery after a failed bypass or a bypass several years ago. I had to have a procedure done (think it is called a ENG or END) which is a scope down my throat into my stomach to see what it looks like now. Just had it done on Friday and waiting for next appt. I emailed Walter Lindstrom. He is an attorney that specializes in denials from insurance for WLS. He had a bypass several years ago, gained most of it back and then had a lap band. He didn't reply to my email as of yet. I guess he is doing great with it though. I am not sure. So if anybody knows anybody that has had lap band after bypass I sure would like to talk to them. Thank you.

Have you found a surgeon that will perform the Lap Band procedure over the Bypass? Hope you had success

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
