I had my first fill TODAY.

Recommended Posts

Well, I went in to see my doctor today. He was pleased with my weightloss until I told him that I feel hungary about three hours after I eat.... really hungary!!! So he told the nurse to get the tray ready and I was in for my very first fill.

He got a pillow to put behind the small of my back, I laid down and lifted my head off of the pillow. He felt around and before ya know it the needle was in and I was getting a fill. He had me sit up and drink some Water... right away I felt pressure so he took out 1cc.

I must admit that I did feel the first fill but not the second one... did it hurt???? not really... just a little pinch like giving blood.

Wow! I would think that many people get hungry 3 hours after a meal. It's just about time for the next meal.

That's amazing that you are getting filled so soon after surgery. Did he give you guidelines about what to eat for the next day or so?

I am amazed. I'm glad it went so smoothly. Seriously that's my biggest fear was the fills. Surgery... ah I handle them well. The needles... UGH!

I am so jealous and I really don't have a jealous bone in my body! I have the realize band (9cc) which is installed empty. I don't get my first fill until Oct.22 which is 6 weeks post op. That's my doc's requirement. It's so weird because I feel like I am flying solo even though there is suppose to be some restriction just because the band is there but I have these eating restrictions. I am still trying to figure it all out.

I was surprised to get a fill too... but when I told him that my appetite had returned to normal... he felt a week or two early for the fill would not matter much.

The restriction is slight in this 14cc band but I can tell the difference. When I read on the fill page there are alt of us with this size band. My dr said he like a cusshhyyy band.

I can't wait to hear about your first fill.

Are you kidding me? LOL! My appetite completely returned to normal weeks ago, although I do feel like I fill up faster, and I think that is only due to my stomach having shrunk from all the preop and postop weeks of eating little. Plus chicken is hard to eat.

However, I would think that most docs would require 6 weeks postop healing, not for the stitches, but for the inside. The stomach has to have time to heal and form around the band. So yes, I'm flying solo on this....25% restriction from pure band, and 75% from sheer willpower. Trust me...I would love to eat chocolate cake and garlic fries from Red Robin and a multitude of other naughties, but I try to refrain till I start getting fills.

Well I had my first fill on 09/22/08 and they put in 4cc's. I was on liquids yesterday and am back at eating today but an hour after my meal I am hungry again. Should I go back in for another fill?

I had my surgery on 8/29/08 and I had my first fill on yesterday! Everything went well. It was really less than I thought it would be. I guess I had worked myself up for nothing but it was seemless!! However, I only received 2cc's and I had a thought as I lay on the table that I should have asked for more because I absolutely have NO RESTRICTION I feel the same. I know that it will take a little time to get to the "sweet spot" but I was hoping for a little restriction. I have to wait for the next one which will be 10/20 I can't wait. But I am cleared to work out starting today so I am excited about that so that I can see these numbers on the scale moving down.....I am satisfied thus far with my 19 pound weight loss since surgery. But would be even happier with more!!! :girl_hug:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
