Hey Guys!!

Recommended Posts

I'm just a little over two weeks post op and I sure hope and pray that wild game is not hard to eat. I shot my deer this year ( four point mulie, western count) and still have elk and bison in the freezer from last year. Probably 90% or more of the red meat my family eats is wild game. Has been that way for years. That's the way it was for me growing up also. (I'm 52 yo now). Plus I've lost 55 lbs since I started the pre op diet up to now. I weighed 376 lbs at my initial appointment and I now weigh 321 lbs. I've only got another 90 lbs to lose. I'm telling you, this is the very best thing that I have ever done for myself. Finding this forum has also been a great help.

Merry Christmas you bunch of yay whoos!!! I love this site!!:scared2::biggrin:

I am glad someone asked about deer meat. I have been hesitant to try it since surgery. I have eaten steak with no problem but chicken sometimes is hard to get down.

I have found that if I can chew the meat to a liquid in about 25 bites then I usually do not have a problem.

If I can not chew it to a liquid in 25 bites then I stay away from it.

I have eaten duck, elk, deer, caribou, Buffalo, squid, chicken, pork, cornish game hen, calamari and all kinds of fish.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
