I'm new and not sure!

Hello

My name's Louise and I'm overweight, no very overweight.

I have lost weight before, seven stone last year, but it's nearly all back on again. I guess you'd say I'm a professional yo-yo dieter.

I'm looking for an answer to my sadness at going up and down and never staying where I want to be. Is a gastric band the answer?

Will I get a gatric band on the NHS?

I'm 5' 1 and weight about 15 stone 7.

Can anyone give me any advice?

Lou x

Umm....I'm not exactly sure what a stone is, but try calculating you BMI. A lot of times it has to be about 35 or above 40 to be considered. My BMI was 44 or something and I was self pay. Wish I could be more help. Good luck. I hope you find your answer

Thank you so much for replying...my BMI is 40. I weigh about 217 pounds.

I'm from the UK, having the op here if I go self pay will be about £7k, about $14k I think (excuse my rubbish conversions). I will go and see my GP (family doctor) but I just feel they are going to rubbish me and tell me to go away as I have lost weight, not once but 3 times. Each time I find myself back here though.

My knees hurt, every morning my back hurts and I'm very miserable. In fact I hate myself.

Ho hum..sorry it's turned out to be a bit of an outpouring.

Thanks again for replying.

I've had the same problems and it actually helped me get the LapBand because It showed that even though I've done diets multiple times I've always gained the weight back and then some! I also had back pain, knee pain, and just all around pain. It also helps if you have high blood pressure and stuff. I hope that you are able to get some help  Good luck!!!

Thanks again for your reply and your good luck wishes.

I still haven't got the courage to go to my GP though. Is this forum used by anyone from the UK, or do you know a UK alternative, you guys are all fab, but it would be good to chat to someone in the UK too.

Thanks again, it means so much to get a reply xxxx

If you go up top to the search bar and type in United Kingdom you'll get some matches of people that are from the UK...some wont be but some are

It sounds like you just got banded. How are you doing? Is this stage harder than you thought it would be? Do you have lots of contact with your doctor or someone from his office?

I actually feel great. The first day isn't so bad. The second day you feel a little sore. For me the 3rd and 4th days were the worst. I didn't even use my pain meds because really it feels like that hurt you feel after you do A LOT of sit ups/crunches. I had to do one week liquid, one week mushies, and then slowly introduce solids! I feel great though. My incisions are healing nicely. My port is still a little sore, but not bad. I'm sure you'll do fine! The surgery center that did my surgery has online support groups, 24/7 phone line and support groups that meet like twice a month or something! It's great and I wouldn't go back! Good luck and keep me updated :rolleyes2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
